CAMC have just lost two long time members. We have just been treatered to the most horrendous treatment by the Wardens at the Norfolk Broads site. Our friends travelling down from Newcastle experience problems on their Journey and telephoned to warn they will be late. I popped into the reception to also notify them they were running very late. When our friends called me to tell me they were three minutes way I walked up to the reception and was met by Mrs Angry barking "What do you want". I told her our friends were just arriving and she Said "Oh no they are not". I said they will be here in a few minutes. She went on to say they were not informed and called me and our friends liars. Then Mr Slightly Angry came out and said they were not going to book them in tonight. They were happy to stand there and argue with me but not to book them in. I said they were going to come in anyway as they had just travelled all the way down from Newcastle. The man eventually told us they could park in front of the reception but they would not book them in until 1pm the next day!

Bye bye CAMC.

Feel free to message me if you want to know more.

Sounds typical of their wardens.
Over the years I've joined for the odd year but never stayed a member because of the wardens attitude and I don't like their sites.

One instance was a Winchester, we got stuck in a traffic jam for nearly an hour, must have phoned 20 times to let them know but they don't answer their phones.
Arrived at 8:10 was met by Aldorf, I tried to introduce myself he just stood there with clenched fists shouting "you're late you can't come in" where do they get these arse holes from.

I spoke to my niece a few years ago she is there community manage, she told me they were putting the wardens through customer relations training courses due to complaints about them, it's obviously not done any good.

That's very poor.
However, one morning whilst in the m/h touring the Dales I had a phone call from a hospital at Redruth to say that my sister wasn't expected to last another day.
I phoned the nearest CAMC site to book a pitch and explained the situation and that I had a 430 mile drive and wouldn't arrive til at least 10 p.m. after visiting the hospital.
The warden said they'd leave the barrier open for me which they did. I spoke with my sister when I arrived at the hospital for about 30 mins whilst she died. When I arrived at the camp site around midnight I drove straight onto the pitch that they had given me and where they had left a bottle of milk and a couple of sausage rolls. Bless 'em.

Same experience when me and the misses went to the Gowerton site CAMC.

Put in a complaint and they just said well ok we will look into it and that was it.

So we’ll not be renewing our membership.

Same here ,we got a reply and they tried to justify a very rude and unhelpfull pratt .

Only ever had one "incident" which annoyed me at the time but I realised had an explanation, and I hope the guy realised it later and felt suitably embarrassed. Camped at Cherry Hinton for the week while attending Addenbrookes for radiotherapy I had booked the Monday to Friday night as my appointments were at varying times. Getting back mid morning after an early appointment on the Friday we decided to leave on the day rather than stay the paid for night. Mentioned this to the lady warden but as we left mid afternoon her other half, chatting to someone near the exit shouted "you should have been out by midday". I wasn't feeling on top of the world and left it at that but hopefully his wife put him right. Apart from that ill informed warden we've never had anything but a pleasant reception from both clubs.

Scumbags . Thank you for posting this . The CAMC don’t look after their staff and therefore these instances will continue to occur .We will not be renewing our membership to either club this year . The Funster rallies and private sites are the route we will take . That said , the more Lenny HB posts his travel blogs, the more temptation I have to just go over to France and Spain and see what happens. I have lost all interest in being a member of a U.K. club .

If only they were all that decent.

Next to the Norfolk Broads site there is a pub, the Dog Inn. It is only £10 to park on their field, but there is no EHU. They do great food as well.
We can highly recommend the Dog Inn too. Great food and service.

There's a motorhome area in Wroxham on the river next to the bridge. Entrance is the old Connoisseur Cruisers opposite Broads Tours/ Norfolk Broads Direct. I think they may still have a couple of hook up posts from the days of being a hire craft and boat building yard.

If the CAMC would implement some basic fundamentals in their training of new staff then this issue wouldn’t exist . It’s highly embarrassing for me that the CAMC don’t post on here . The CAMC are now in a very ongoing political situation. Step up and have a consistent policy for the company or die . People want value for money . Get this sorted CAMC

I had booked to stay in CAMC site but as ever in a rush got it wrong - I thought I was leaving Thursday but had only paid to leave Wednesday, was working nearby - wardens rang home no to say I should have left by 12 - oops , lots of phone calls from home 😱 … but I couldn’t leave work until 6: apologised on site- checked booking It Was Me , explained I had to leave by 5 am Thursday was only then hoping to be staying Weds night after work as I thought I had paid ( tight ! )- they let me off extra payment and I drove home as soon as I could. Site was busy and they were very understanding. Different people on different sites….

All well and good, but people are people wherever they are and cultural differences may count for something or not, depending on the attitude. There is no excuse for rudeness, whatever the (non-emergency) situation. Customer service should be attainable without more than a request - even if it was not willingly given to start with- after that it's unprofessional.

To avoid unpleasant unprofessional, come as best as possible prepared, notify of changes and complain like hell if you have been denied a stated service.

It seems very strange that a manned site should have a problem organisiing late arrivals - hasn't this been happening since time immemorial?

I recall asking at a hotel reception in northern Andorra about a nightbus service back from Andorra town and being assured that there was one and was even given the times and bus stop locations - except the day was Thursday and this service operated Friday to Sunday only, resultiing in a very expensive taxi fare.

Next morning, reception were defensive and wanted us to believe that the conversation about buses being available had never happened
I quoted the guy's name and told them their information was wrong, and then I smiled at them, gave them the room cards and walked away never to return!

The wardens at Brighton CAMC site were fantastic when I had a heart attack there. They secured everything for us whilst was in hospital for 48h, I had to stay local to the hospital for a couple of days and they gave my daughter, who we were visiting, a code so that she could access the site at any time. When we had to leave hey moved the caravan to a storage pitch, and liaised with the AA who were taking the van back to Devon for us (also a big shout out to the AA who did it as a goodwill gesture). So not all wardens are bad!

Some wardens are fab, others ... not so much.

We were leaving a site on Easter Monday, but fancied walking the dog and stopping for a (late) breakfast in the town about 3 miles away.

I asked (nicely) if there was any chance of leaving the campervan on the pitch until 1pm. I'd have been very happy to pay some form of late checkout fee. "Not possible" "Far too busy". He reluctantly allowed me to move the campervan to their car park.

When we came back, the site was about a quarter empty.

I suspect I got Mr Grumpy just when he was having a bad moment. All the other wardens we've met so far this year have been lovely.

The only reason we joined the camc again was to qualify for cheaper Mayday breakdown cover for the moho. Mind you, in the last 3 weeks I've saved £53 when buying batteries and a ferry crossing to NI using their discount code from the members offers, so I've more or less got my money bsck.

The wardens seem to be a particular type of person though.....a lot of ex old bill perhaps?

Referring back to the OP, at least your friends from Newcastle parked up safely, but didn't have to pay £35-£40 for the night....I hope

Years ago we were booked into York site.
Male warden came out pointed to hubby-driving “you stay there” pointed at me “you go in and book in, nothing polite about any of that!
Female warden argued that we had to park in certain direction regardless of fact we are a lefty, wouldn’t listen and eventually said just get out and follow the instructions!
We aren’t members anymore!
The wardens are big-headed little Hitlers, they think they are far more important than we are but without us they wouldn’t have a job!

Our experience of CAMC wardens has for the most part been okay. I did have a run in with a very nasty piece of work at Grantham Water but that was an exception. Even so my formal and reasonable complaint to CAMC HQ was fobbed off.

Most club site managers are welcoming and friendly but what I can't understand is why the unpleasant ones even bother to apply for a job in hospitality. How they get through the interview and training makes you wonder.

Three positives from non club sites. One CL - didn't charge us at all for 2 nights just because we got stuck when we went to fill up with water. He towed us out with his tractor.

Non club site in Anglesea - allowed us to leave our motorhome until mid afternoon on check out day - no additional charge.

Maybe non club sites the way to go.

... and the prize for working yet another dig at the police into a post that's nothing to do with that subject goes to ...

May be they should be made to read MHF and when they realise how much motorhome owners moan and grizzle and don’t expect to pay etc for parking etc. They might have changed their minds on working on a campsite.
