Hi, I'm new here...
Just in the middle of building my own camper, I'm a little stuck on installing a cavagna bulkhead butane gas regulator into my gas locker. It's an 8mm compression fitting outlet and has a brass olive that is only tapered on one side, as I tighten the nut the pipe just slips out, the olive is not tightening around the copper pipe. I've tried using another olive that is tapered both sides, but still the pipe just slips out. I'm new to compression fittings, is there just something basic I'm not doing ? or does this sound wrong ? I have no idea! Unfortunately I cannot attach images as they are not online.

Any help or ideas would be greatly appreciated.

Thank you, Kelly

How tight is the olive to the pipe ? It should be a good fit, if not you are fitting the wrong olive to the pipe. Are you sure the pipe is 8mm? And so is the olive ?

Yes I’m pretty sure it’s an 8mm pipe and yes the olive is stepped like the one pictured....

Then I am actually going to say “should you really be attempting this work yourself “

There are two stages during tightening. You should feel the olive compress (requires most effort) after which a further quarter turn is tight enough. As Basildog suggests you need someone with experience to demonstrate or to do the work for you.

As an aside are you sure your doing the right thing fitting butane as it stops working at anything below 2deg C
