Try for a good earth even if you have power at the cables end.
Check also the number plate is getting power.

We lost a marker light on our Solano. IIRC It was a loose connection / bulb in the main rear lights. They are on a left / right circuit. Took some fathoming out.

if you have 12.4v across the connections it has to be the bulb or holder depending where your measuring the voltage

The high level brake light on my Burstner stopped working, I could get 12 volts at the light's terminals but there wasn't sufficient current to operate it. I fiddled around with cleaning the terminals and trying a new earth, the only way I could get it to work was to run a new cable and splice it into the offside brake light supply.

Our 530 managed an amazing feat - top light was out, so much measuring. Found power but no earth return. Earth return was via the Ali skin. The Ali had ceased to be grounded to the chassis. So I ran a new wire from skin to chassis -- done.

How a whole side skin could un-earth itself is a mystery.

Later I found quite a bit of wood rot around the bottom of the side wall due to poor sealing, that may be the cause.

Hi Glyn

I am currently grappling with what is likely a similar problem. I took the top light off and tested it and it seems fine. So now need to start tracing the cable. I see it disappear into the top skin but am wondering how to follow where it goes from there. Do you have any tips?

I see there is an earth cable between the left side skin and chassis. But don't see anything on right hand side. Any idea which particular skin the light is likely to be bound to? Mine is a 2001 A530 so may be slightly different, but probably not much.
