Apologies for starting a new thread on this subject, as I know there are very informative other posts which I have read. But it appears that replacement of the the gas struts have carried out been on Hymer's or other vehicles, as after printing out these posts and comparing the replacement process to what I have in my Burstner 660, they appear to be quite different.
My understanding is: that one should only remove the gas struts when the struts are NOT compressed. This is the only safe way and this is when the overhead bed is in the fully raised position. It appears even from the other posts, this when access to the struts is poor.
HOWEVER, in my case on the Burstner, there is absolutely NO access to do anything when the bed is raised to the maximum. There is brilliant access when the bed is lowered but this is when the struts are in a fully compressed state and presumably dangerous to attempt to remove !
I am struggling to see how the struts can be removed without removing the overhead bed completely, which would be an horrendous task ??
