Last year our fridge became difficult to open- closet inspection showed the top hinge pin socket on the top of the door had broken.

I initially repaired it with epoxy resin and this lasted a year but the door is sagging again and the plastic in the area around the hinge is cracked, more importantly - the domestic goddess once again can’t get at her white wine so an urgent solution was needed- obviously ignoring the crazy option of buying a new door

After a rummage in the garage I found some stainless steel strap and rivets, the pictures show what I did and at least for now it seems to work and the rivets don’t get in the way of anything -

I also put a 5mm washer under the bottom hinge to lift the door slightly as it drags on the carpet

Hopefully this idea may be of some use to someone

Where did you get the stainless band from? It's usually galvanised or black and quite weak. 🤔

M21s21. An excellent repair. 👍

Re washers, what I have done in the past with both fridge doors and habitation doors, where they have needed raising slightly, is to keep a selection of hard nylon washers. I cut a v shaped slot in them less than half the diameter of the hinge pin, and gently slide the slot over the pin. This has the desired result of lifting the doors slightly, thereby taking up that worn space, without having to remove it, or the hinges. 👍 The washers can't come off either. ;)

Cheers,

Jock. :)

i found it in my garage - it was an end of line from our local independant shop-so thats not much use to you. Though galvanised should be fine as it wont get that wet especially if its painted as well there wont be any bimetallic action - main thing is that you really want 5mm holes.
