I can't believe it but I can only use it until December 2022, and I want to get a February 3rd 2023 ferry. What's that
about? Unless your membership runs out then? So I'll be coming back with a request later but may have to
book without it as I might not get a berth.

Happened to me, I phoned Brittany ferries and he was going to allow me to book for September 2023, but if the member didn’t renew I would have to pay the difference.

They are all valid.
It's just that, if "the friend" does not renew the membership in the meantime, then you would be charged the full rate.
I'm sure that, before the sail date you could enquire with BF to ensure that the discount is still there.
A small price to pay.
