Hi,
I have sent a email to Brittany Ferries re my membership of the above system.

My membership is due for renewal at the end of the month.

Brittany Ferries have suspended sailings initially until the middle of April but
I can assume that the current situation will mean that they will not be resuming
a meaningful service any time soon.

I have suggested to them that the membership of the system rolls forward
a month at a time without charge until normal service is resumed.

I would add that I will be********* in the wind if my email is seen in isolation.

The only way that this will be treated with respect is if others spend five mins.
of their time and send a similar message, even if your membership is months away.

We pay for 12 mths. We should get 12mths.

Good point, well made.

I will send a similar statement.

Although ATM they are overwhelmed with issues.

Where you travelling in April, or was that a down month anyway? I think in the current situation I'm treating my membership as a sunk cost and it would be a few months before I considered putting further burdens on companies I have an annual membership for. I want them to be around when I can use them again!

In my case they've got until March next year. So long as it gets seen and considered by them by then.

I have no idea how much money you pay for this ‘privilege’ but I really think given what’s going on you are fighting your battle at an inappropriate time ?
Its about a cheap cup of coffee a week,,,Dont think it will break me,,BUSBY.

My thoughts exactly. The country is in a mess. Why quibble over tiny amounts.

When UK goes into lockdown, will you expect partial refund of road tax?
Worrying times.

this country allows this , the government will right now be taking another massive hit as thousands SORN their vehicles with the DVLA, immediately generating a refund for all unused road tax

it will cost the government millions

Road tax here is about 20€ a year.

The Spain Club is £125 a year, France £75. Not trivial amounts. If the OP doesn't renew they will have to pay the £105 registration fee if they want to rejoin.

I'm not sure I'm "Paying for a privilege", I'm paying a membership fee, which gives me certain entitlements.

It's not unlike paying to be a golf club member, and playing without Green Fees, or being a guest and having to pay.

I normally cross Portsmouth St Malo six times a year, it's expensive but Dover Calais is a longer drive, I weigh up the costs/convenience balance and pay membership to secure the discount.

If the service is withdrawn... why should I pay?

It might only "add up to a cup of coffee a week", but I'm not going to push a fiver into Starbucks letterbox when they're closed.

they're all sorn'ing

That is the one nonsensical thing about spain in that not only are the taxes differnt region to region but even within a region each local council is allowed to set there own road tax. I've just paid for my Transit & that is 161€/year Good job it is offset by my 17€/year council tax.:giggler::giggler:

In relation to this post, I can report that I have received a response from Brittany Ferries,

This is what they say.
"Thank you for your e-mail

It is not necessary to renew straight away.. The membership will stay open for 3 months beyond the expiry date.

Therefore you would just need to renew before the end of June. By that time, hopefully the situation may be a little clearer."

So, there you have it. Because my Membership ends at the end of this month, "Pull up the gangplank. I'm alright Jack."

Only it's not, is it. Yes, OK for us and the rest of CV Members in the same boat as us but an ever diminishing benefit for those whose membership ends in the following months.
No benefit at all to those whose membership ends in July going forward.

I think that the developments on trans European travel post CV will be much the bigger issue and if ferry companies can survive the inevitable fall out.
