Brittany Ferries Cancel new overdue ferry

In the current situation I would think that it will be very much a 'suck it and see' approach by most businesses considering major investment.

So what happens to the ship 80% built? is it scrap or an opportunity for an other company?

Yes.

Brokers will try to sell the 80% completed ship, typically as long as it floats some will buy it for a song and tow it to another yard for completion.

The usual problem is the book value and the resale price are millions apart
Image you ordered a £100,000 motorhome, and found the value was basically £2,000 if you were lucky. It can take years before the sellers are prepared to take the hit.

There are several floating hulls available at the moment, the oldest was due for delivery in 2010, that one I suspect will go for scrap unless someone can find a use for it as a floating storage vessel of something equally basic.

I remember many years ago having the phone slammed down on me by a senior executive at a yard with a 99% complete (turbine engined) tanker when I offered him a scrap price bid.
They hung onto it for anther 10 years before finally selling at a below scrap price.
It must have cost them millions and millions to keep it there unused.
The company that eventually bought it cut off the back/engine/accommodation and turned it into a floating storage tank.

Are they still using the Barfleur? We saw it moored at Caen (not Ouistreham) on Saturday, from the brief glance it looked like it was being worked on.
