Details of the proposed clean air zone starting March 2021 were released today. Bristol Clean Air zone

One of the poposals is a complete ban of all diesel cars, including Euro6, from the central area between 7am and 3pm 7 days a week. The zone appears to include the C&MC site at Baltic Wharf. So if your planning on visiting better make in soon.

Yes, as a local I spotted that.

The Mayor wants to ban ALL private diesel cars - even the latest models!

Proposal being put to the full Council on 5 November. If it gets through and is then ratified by the Government, the restriction will be implemented March 2021 (less than 18 months time)!

It will be the first city in the UK to have such a ban.

They've always hated any sort of vehicle. This was just made for them.
And I thought it was just Edinburgh city council who hated all cars....

You have to admire them for doing something positive about emissions, unlike the silly arse mayor of London who just wants money.

at least a total ban is honest, in london we have the ludicrous situation whereby they ban diesels under euro six because they are killing babies and old people but if you pay £12.50 a day its ok to kill babies and old people. surely there's a law suit some where in that

Cheltenham council are doing their best to drive people away from the town ??
Cirencester it is then (or Bath or somewhere else)

But I agree its not a tax collecting hypocritical scam like the one in the “L” place

I lived in Bristol for a few years..... Where on earth are the hippy in their old merc horseboxes going to go?? Mass convoy to the next crusty paradise... Brighton

Does this have any actual effect, apart from shifting diesel based journeys from 3pm to 7am?
What about busses?
What about delivery vans & trucks?
Bin lorries?

Lots more resources & money spent/wasted manufacturing new specific vehicles.

Or Bristol residents to suffer bigger longer post 3pm traffic jams.
Or to be disturbed early morning by deliveries & bin collection.

Hmmm

Don't panic this is Bristol Council we're talking about, they'll bugger it up, they always do with anything road related.

The only thing they ever did that worked was a metal flyover in the 80's , which bypassed what is now a horrendous roundabout, it worked so well they decided to scrap it.

They are a thoroughly useless council. The alternative for Bristolians and visitors is abysmal. The bus network is a joke - taxis will just hike the prices up even more - and yes, it will end up a ghost town.

They couldn’t organise a p**s up in a brewery.

The Avon ring Road is run by South Glos council instead of Highways - they take great delight in closing off a lane for the whole length of it, miles and miles, on both sides, when they might only be working on the first 50 yds at one end.

It is an absolute joke - unfortunately replicated in many other cities.

Baltic Wharf site will be shut by then. It’s on a rolling 6 month lease at the moment ☹

The current Warden, 2 weeks ago, was saying that they have abslotely NO IDEA when it will take place, but he had been provisionally asked to do next year.

They ALL forget that 99% of the goods essential for life and commerce are STILL delivered by?. DIESEL trucks!. One hopes they will replace all their personal Council Diesels, as well, or will it be the usual "one law for us, one for "them""???

There should be a Law suit, I agree. To make it compulsory for those who inflict these draconian laws to pay vast compensation the those affected from their OWN pockets. NOT the public purse!. Like paying my TAXI from home to any Hospital appointment for example. THAT would concentrate minds. ALL this B-S about "clean air" is just that, Modern vehicles are the cleanest ever, IF you want to pay a premium for a so called green vehicle, go ahead, that is your choice. BUT don`t inflict your fantasies on those who just NEED to make a living, and dont have your financial access.

It is £100 to drive within the London Emissions Zone(LEZ) which is almost everything within the M25 and a further charge of £12.50 to drive within the Inner LEZ which is Central London.

Another ridiculous aspect is that it only applies to diesels in vehicles where the Max Permitted Weight is over 3.5t but not to those under, even though they might have the same engine. Weight does not emit anything, the engine does.

I played Transport for London at their own game - don't ask.

Mine is 48years old and therefore Exempt!. Its registered as "historic".

""Certain vehicles are exempt (for example, historic vehicles registered before 1973). And if you live within the ULEZ zone, you can apply for a 100% discount for your car which will last until October 24th, 2021. """

How the bloody hell are Bailey meant to get Motorhomes in and out? They are based in the centre of Bristol lol

Bath is bringing in a similar LEZ, but the B&NES Council did a swift partial u-turn and made private cars exempt when faced by a massive public backlash.

Even the loony Bristol City Council and its Metro Mayor (who was imposed regardless) can be scared of losing local votes. This proposal will not go down well with thousands of Bristolians who need their old diesel cars and vans for work purposes. Bus routes are constantly being cut by Firstbus. It doesn't add up.

Well as I drive a lean clean burning LPG powered vehicle luckily it doesn't affect me. Even my French Crit Aire is Category One :giggler:

I must admit to having a laugh everytime a local council announces measures to cut pollution. Even travelling round Durham and Newcastle each day I find myself in very lengthy traffic jams. Most are namby pamby road works or bad road layouts. As long as we sit in these EVERY day how the hell are we going to save the planet.
Good luck to Bristol and maybe China and the USA will follow suite.

I know someone who runs another firms trailer in to London. Saves them buying euro 6 motors and their drivers don’t want to go into London either. I don’t blame them.
