Are you sure you've got European cover with RAC. My understanding is RAC only offer European cover if your a member of C&CC

Thanks for your reply Yes it is European cover and I ought to have said that it is a 5 ton 9 metre motor home we are members of both Clubs . My post was to ask if anybody has had any experience with either

Always used RAC through C& CC arrival , needed them twice in France , great service , english speaking & keep us informed when vehicle in the garage about every hour with updates, offered to put us up with dog in hotel if we wanted but we prefered to stay in broken down moho. pleased with them .
Using them again for september trip.

We are with Green flag, broke down in the Douro valley last year and we were looked after really well, 4star hotel, hire car and little cheque in the post to compensate us for having to eat in restaurants and hotels. The part took 9 days to arrive, we waited patiently in Vila Real ;-)

RAC for me 7.5 ton 36 footer
They contract out the heavy stuff to Mansfield Recovery A HGV specialist

The AA. Having always driven old cars, and had breakdown out a fair bit over the years, the AA is better than all of them for turning up fast and dealing with the problem. It might be more expensive, but in the instance I think you get what you pay for.

I was told that the AA are only 3.5 ton and 6.5 mtrs max It would appear that there are only a very limited number of company's cater for the bigger van's. I have break down cover with all my other vehicle's through N F U, Lloyds bank account, Halifax debit card, etc,etc but all those have this 3.5 ton restriction. The cover that I have is, The vehicle any driver as opposed to The driver any vehicle and that is what I want to renew

After nearly 30years with AA I was forced to bid them goodbye because they couldn't/wouldn't go over 3.5t.
Now with Green flag and they will recover you out of mud etc if required... don't know if RAC offer that.

Greenflag use garages/recovery local to your breakdown. RAC make you wait until they have a vehicle available.
Grandson had to wait 5hrs for an RAC flat bed to bring him and his car back from
Cornwall.
Our daughter had to wait similar for a flat bed to be sent from Portsmouth to Newbury to take her to Portsmouth. She had already waited over an hour for first RAC van to arrive. Baking hot day with two young children and a dog.
Not good enough. Even following complaints they only got an apology.

Not sure if the normal RAC cover,( up to 3.5 tonnes and 6.4 meters long inc tow bar), would cover stuck in mud as it states ,in its conditions ,a breakdown means an event that stops the vehicle from being driven because of a mechanical or electrical failure.

I too thought the AA was limited on vehicle length until today when I called them to cancel and put all our vehicles onto C&MC Mayday (Green Flag). They said I was already covered for our motorhome as long as:

Maximum Vehicle Weight: 3.5 tonnes (3,500kg) gross vehicle weight
Maximum Vehicle Width: 8ft 3in (2.55m) which constitutes the overall width of the vehicle bodywork excluding mirrors, measured at the widest points.

I checked the T'S & C's on my online AA account and he seems to be correct, no vehicle length mentioned. The AA is more expensive though, so may still end up moving to C&MC Mayday.

Always have got mine from the insurance company. (More often than not, Comfort)
No quibbles about not knowing it was a certain size or weight or in a worse case, it's safety when being moved by others

Please check before going with the Mayday product, I don't think it covers Europe!!
