As many of you who drink Brandy and tried to buy some in the Supermarkets in France you will have noticed what little choice there is.

The meagre display of Brandy/Cognac in Carrefour, E'Leclerc, Auchen and others are causing me dismay when trying to buy a bottle or two.

There are some 'higher' quality ones around €35-40 and some around a few Euros and my purse quivers at the thought of paying €40 but my head says those at the lower price range may only be suitable for paint stripping.

Has anyone found and bought a decent Brandy/Cognac they would recommend for around €15-20 in a French Supermarche and would you kindly share the name and, if possible, the Store ?

Just Brandy/Cognac and not Armagnac please.

Supermarkets offering a limited range tells you more about their customers than the sellers. Perhaps it S the usual case of the French buying based on quality?

My favourite tipple is Courvoisier VSOP but not very often

Go to the local viticulters they will have signs "Degustation" = tasting the local chateaux have excellent products and get this ..... you can taste them for FREE !!!!! a Yorkshiremans dream free alcohol. Whilst in this area, cos we're just down the rod from Cognac, try our local speciality "Pineau Charentais". It's a sweet product that must be drunk cold 4°C (ish).

Buy cheap= buy twice= buy rubbish

:D Sorry ... Only French standart quality for Brandy. After all ... you're in France:whistle2: :D That said one more vote for Courvoisier

Just get down to Spain and buy Soberano for under a tenner.

It's so smooth I love it.

Quite agree Brian. However mercadona in Avila’s didn’t have any but this one is still lovely.

That's not Avila in the background. What a fantastic place that is. First time we saw it we could no believe our eyes - "what on earth is that over there ?" As we got closer it became obvious.

Veterano always seems to be on the same shelf as Soberano but a bit dearer. I reckon the Spanish do a very drinkable brandy. And no need to feel too guilty when making a lumumba.

I Import Soberano for £10 per litre delivered from Barcelona
12 bottles was about £120
At today’s exchange rate with Revolut it would be £126 delivered from wineselec

Whatever you do don't go to the Lanesborough hotel on Hyde park corner and ask for a glass of there best brandy. Unless you have £1800 to spare.
