Has anyone done their motorhome or had it done

A customer of mine who‘s daft about his Ford Cossie suggested “we” did my Comanche using G-Tech Ceramic coating, this was done early last year and took 3 of us 4 days to do and ran out of time to do the roof 🙁.

So on tuesday this week he suggested I get some of this to wash the van and do the roof and wow, literally took us 2 hours

then I used it as a top up on the bodywork which once again took less than 2 hours

Hi
The results look amazing.
So basically you just have 2 products, a wash followed by the coating. Had the roof had any sort of coating on before?
Thanks

I'm a bit confused.

Does that mean that sometime last year you did a process on your MH which took 3 people 4 days to do ? And that this year, having done the "process" last year you used another product to clean it ?

Or does it mean that this year you bought the products shown in the picture and on a MH which had received no prior special treatment you polished the MH with those products ?

We had our car done professionally 5 years ago when it was new with a Williams Ceramic. It still looks brilliant and hasn’t needed any polishing. We had our new motorhome treated with Paintseal Gen3 Ceramic last August. It is too soon to say how well this will last but after a winter trip I only had to rinse the mud and salt off to restore it to showroom condition.

hi Tim
no, the roof had not had anything done to since i purchased the motorhome brand new in Sept 2018.

Last year the main bodywork took us 4 days to wash and machine polish, then apply the ceramic coating then buff up. I topped that up on tuesday this week after doing the roof just using the C2 spray which took around 80/90 mins including a wash.

The roof was filthy, I wish i’ve taken a photo of it now tbh, we washed it then sprayed it with the C2 and just gently rubbed it on the roof, very easy and I mean easypeasy which took 2 hours, the washing of the roof and getting into all the nooks and crannies took about 90/100 mins and the C2 literally about 20 mins

now it’s all been done it’s just a matter of washing the whole van inc roof and then wiping on the C2 each year in my case although Matt did say it lasts approx 5 years

I’m wanting the keep the motorhome looking tip-top so once a year for me is ok

Also when we did the Ceramic Coat last year, Matt used some stuff on the windows and windscreen, i’m not sure if it was G Tech or not tbh, and the results were simply mind bogglingly good with regards to rain beading and running off the windscreen

I need to do that again now 👍

Thats a credit to you !
I just cannot ever understand folk who have motorhomes who spend a small fortune on them and then don't look after the body work properly?
Lovely job well done you! ;)(y)

Thanks for that information, very grateful. I had seen this product on YouTube and it seemed to amazing to be true, but you have confirmed it is excellent.
My vehicle is 9 years old and has been parked up for nearly 6 months as we got stuck in Spain, still here actually, and SO needs to be cut back and protected.
Out with the polisher, and sun brolly, for me then.
Just having it transferred onto Spanish plates as we have decided to stay so have the time to do it now!
Thanks again for your reply.

Don't get me wrong Tim, the original cost for the products alone last year were around a grand and then their was the labour for 4 days for 3 people, that was free thank the lord. I've seen the ones/posts who take half a day to Ceramic Coat and trust me its impossible to do a small car let alone a 8.8mtr motorhome in half a day if its done correctly, preparation alone took us 3 days.

Also and this is important, it must be done undercover as once the Ceramic is applied it has to stand for at least 12 hours to cure, if it rains on it then start again with emery paper to get it all off again. :crying1:

YOU HAVE BEEN WARNED

best of luck

Al :drinks:

PS. i think i may be a bit jealous of you staying over in Spain, although not sure about the heat in july/aug, good luck to you and we'll buy each other a pint if/when we bump into each other, where abouts are you btw if its ok to ask or are you just moving around?

Hi
We are on the inside shore of the Mar Menor Lagoon in a town called Los Alcazares, Murcia. We have just, this week, received our Residencia and against all odds an ITV on our UK built motorhome now awaiting new plates! So, we are here to stay as we felt so much safer in this area and a 6 min walk from this!

The beers are on me! Thanks for the information.

Having used ceramic coatings and waxes for a living in the marine enviroment, I thought it worth offering my 2 pence worth based upon my experience.

I will start by saying quality ceramic coatings, with the surfaces properly prepared and the ceramic coating correctly applied are the bee's knee's, both in looks and in ease of washing.
I am sure you know, but GTechniq ceramic can be quickly damaged if the wrong wash products are used. I assume that also goes for Williams ceramics and the like...

It is worth quickly talking about the difference between automotive paint systems and GRP (Fibreglass).
  • Automotive paint systems place a lacquer coat on top of the paint to provide protection for the paint.
  • GRP motorhome bodies have a gelcoat finish which provides the protective layer, waterproofing and colour all-in-one. In the main, GRP does not tend to be painted, however, there are always exceptions.
Ceramic coatings do not offer much in the way of UV protection. The lacquer coat on automotive paint systems provides UV protection to the paint, whereas the gelcoat finish on GRP has no inbuilt UV protection. It is the UV damage that turns gelcoat yellow.

A number of my marine customers liked the ease of washing and cleaning the ceramic's on GRP and happily lived with the yellowing. Personally, I would rather not have yellowing and so am happy to work slightly harder at cleaning and maintaining a shine.

Ceramic coatings well maintained and using the right wash products will last in excess of 5 years. On GRP this can add up to a lot of UV damage, especially if you head to the hotter climes for the summer. Because ceramic coatings are hard, when they need replacing/renewing they make polishing the GRP to remove the yellow damaged gelcoat a major task. You can easily double the time it would normally take to prepare a surface.

So for my personal use, it is ceramic coatings on lacquered paintwork and high UV protection wax on GRP.
On the GRP I use a high quaity marine wax with a good UV rating, but they tend to produce slightly less of a shine.

As an example, this is the side of my 4 year old GRP bodied motorhome waxed with 3M Scotchgard Marine Liquid Wax. It has a good shine, but not quite to the level you could achieve with a ceramic coating or a good quality automotive wax. Water beading is very good, and it lasts around 6 to 9 months depending on season and weather. If the motorhome had a painted body with a lacquer top coat, then I would be more than happy to apply a ceramic coating.

If you look at the panel on the roof above the LH end of the awning, you will see a panel I forgot to wax last year and it has yellowed due to UV damage. I need to get up there and give it a machine polish to remove the damage, followed by a good protective wax coat.

Hope my 2 pence worth has been useful.
