Bailey Advance 66-2
Exp
Since Sept ‘21.
Hi
We have a Fiamma rack- it’s high and it’s a struggle to lift the e-bikes onto it. Can you have a low one on this MH or would it need to be a tow bar job?

I am in the same boat (motorhome) I am struggling to find a tow bar fitter for the Bailey Advance. I have also seen a frightening image of a cracked rear wall around the bike rack fitting on a Bailey Motorhome :whew:

When we bought our current MH the Fiamma bike rack was too high for my liking to safely get our Ebikes on and off, plus when the bikes were on the bike rack you could see the back wall of our van was bowing and this would only be made worse when our Mh would hit potholes and sleeping policemen.
To overcome both the loading height problem and the bowing back wall I removed the existing bike rack and fitted Fiamma Carry-Bike Reinforcement Fixing Bars which spread the weight over a bigger area across the back of our van top and bottom rather than just the original 4 small points, and now we have no deflection in our back wall at all.
I also swapped over to the E-bike version of the Fiamma Carry-Bike Lift 77 which saves me lifting our bikes on at height.

Our E-bikes weigh 25kg each without the batteries.

I managed to get in touch with Bailey Support and they recommend the Pro E as long as the bike total is under 60kg.

Our two bikes have a total of 50kg without the battery so I think we are ok

Just fitting a Pro E alone will not stop strain at the four mounting points on your back wall, the Pro E just has larger diameter tube work in some areas, otherwise the same as a Pro M bike rack which is also rated at 60kg max.

I suggest you fit a tow bar and use a towbar rack...

I had a Fiamma rack on the door of my panel van, but even with just two lightweight bikes it was bending the door outwards at the top, it was also quite high for lifting the bikes onto the rails.. in future we want to take our e-bikes, this rack would be unsuitable.. so decided to remove it and buy a Thule Tow ball rack.. the van has a towbar already fitted.

The Thule VeloCompact 924 2-Bike Carrier retail price is around £530 .

I searched for a better price and found one on ebay

Volvo dealer selling the exact same rack (with Volva branding) for £350

Thank you. In fact the pro E is discontinued for 2023 so I am going to consider options for a bit.
