Hi all , not been on here for a while . Does anyone know of a good quality double cycle cover that will actually cover two largish mountain bikes on my Thule bike rack please? All the best sean
I made my own as the last 2 we bought only lasted for a few journeys each.
Buy a decent tarp not the cheap thin ones they only last a year because they are not very uv proof.
You will need about 3.5m to 4m square I bought double and cut in half. cut a rectangular hole 300mm x 25mm wide or enough for where the arms go to hold the frames of the bikes,
Measure from the tyre rails to the top support that holds the frame holding arms and add about 0.5m
My hole is off centre because of the way the bikes sit on the carrier, so the tarp covers the bikes evenly around the sides.
Get some duct tape and stick all around the hole, 3 or 4 layers to stop it ripping.
Get one of those eyelet kits from amazon and fit one either side and top and bottom of where the frame holders go through the duct taped hole you’ve made in the tarp.
I use short bungees about 300mm the type used to tie debris netting to heras fencing as they have small plastic hooks that go through the eyelets, to hold the eyelets together around the frame holders.
I made various lengths of bungee cord with hooks all available from amazon to hold the whole lot on once wrapped around the bikes.
One around the bikes and carrier vertically in the middle do this one first.
One horizontally, and two on the diagonals, I use 50mm metal rings for the bungee hooks to latch on to.
From experience when you’ve got it on the bikes where the ends of the handle bars tend to sit put some more duct tape on the inside to strengthen it as this is a wear point.
A bit of a faff to make but a lot more resilient to the elements and motorway speeds.
Hopefully you can get the gist from my quick pic done in the garage.
I tend to leave this on the carrier wrapped up all season and only remove it in the winter.
I bought my Hindermann 2 E-Bike cover from here. There's a range of sizes. Very pleased with mine, sturdy and hard-wearing. You do need to strap a cover well as they tend to billow!
