After a recent trip to Cornwall have Decided we need a toad to make trips that bit better as hiring cars busses etc a bit challenging.

also need a car for home, fancy Abarth for a bit of fun, has to be semi auto, budget <£12k, but I’m 6.2 So a bit tight, as smarts can only be towed before 2014 think they are out, Are aygo/108 bit gusty up Cornish hills😳

thanks

We have a Peugeot 108 with a 'tow bars 2 tow cars' A frame and electronic gubbins. Easy to tow and really nimble, can get anywhere.

As for power, we went to Switzerland and back in the 108 me, better half and 49 kg GSD and luggage with no problem and at flat out speeds!!

It's really surprised me and now have 50k miles on the clock in 3 years, with no issues other than regular servicing and tyres.

Only car we have is a Citroen C1 semi auto which we used to trailer to Spain but not any more and it’s surprisingly good in auto mode.

My understanding is Peugeot 108 and Aygo, plus I think on elf the Citroesn, are all basically the same car, with body bits/internals by each manufacturer.

I have an ex demo Aygo auto.

My wife is not keen on it as it can be a little clunky on 1st to 2nd when cold and certainly not as smooth gear change as our Subaru XV or my old Land Rover Discovery 4.

However, I must say I love driving the little car.

I have found that using the flappy paddles to change up gears when I want not when it wants makes it much smoother and it can get going quite fast.

Cleverly, flappy paddle change up does NOT put it into manual, it just changes the one gear, unless you change again, you have to move the gear stick into manual to get full manual gear changes.

Apple Carl Play on it also works a treat, in fact thinly thing I really miss is cruise control and I have just found out I can get that retrofitted! :)

Robster100 I find you can use the speed limiter quite effectively as a 'quasi' cruise control!

Same platform, engine/gearbox and running gear, just a few body panels and styling for each manufacturer. All made in same facility in the Czech Republic.

Thanks Kraken, did not realise it had a speed limiter!

I often use my cruise control in villages etc to make sure I am not speeding, I will dig out the manual.

Robster100 look for the small small toggle lever on the right hand side of the steering column cover, just below the wiper stalk. That's where it is on mine.

We have a 19plate Aygo Toad, love the little blighter! What’s this about converting the completely useless/waste of time/over complex to use speed limiter to a much more useful cruise control? Definitely want that as an add on to this great wee car. Please advise!

Thanks in advance!

Link for Aygo Cruise control, I think it is around £390 fitted!

This is a question i have been searching an answer for so intrigued with the answers.
So, An Aygo and or a 108 do a auto or semi auto able to be towed yes?????? Or indeed a Arbarth.

Got the manual Abarth on ours and love it to bits. Had both Smarts and Aygo's..Even the IQ...Prefer the Abarth purely because it allows me to forget my age and have a little bit of fun now and again.

Regarding Aygo cruise control, the system supplied by Canm8, as highlighted by Robster100 above (thanks once again buddy!) will arrive next day at your door for £231 including VAT. You are sent an email with all the fitting instructions, it is compatible with the speed limiter, allegedly!!, and fits as a solid, immovable stalk on the LHS of the steering column. Only the buttons move, not the column. Sounds like it’s easy for a reasonably able DIY mechanic to fit, mostly plug n play, with only hard wiring required for a power source and a ground/earth wire. We have proper cruise control in the MoHo, and in my 2017 Fiesta, the Aygo’s speed limiter is a pain to use as you have to keep the accelerator depressed past the speed you want to maintain, this is tiring and I find it very distracting. If the cruise control was half the money it would be a no brainer. I’m now betwixt n between....

Cheers!

Please let me know if you get it and how well it works.

My first thing for the Aygo is an electronic braked AFrame System.

Every vehicle I have had for last 10 or more years has cruise control, including Motorhome, so I am suffering withdrawal symptoms with Aygo.

Problem is I will need it fitted as I am NOT a competent mechanic! 😳

We have been looking at this, and as far as i am aware, the Aygo / 107 / 108 / Citroen C1, can all be towed as an auto, but not the Abarth.
Please correct me if i am wrong.

Certainly you are correct on the first 3, I know but no idea about the Abarth.

Amazing car, little pocket rocket picked her up Tuesday tried the smartgor2, Aygo/108/c1 and Fiat 500 but the Abarth won. My neighbours said our motorhome has had a baby 👶😂
Bit worried about the lower suspension and skirts but spoke to a guy on here that towed one with no problems at all. Conversion booked next month.

Any body got a rough idea what this genre of car weighs with the towing kit? I’ve got a plated 7T rig and so got to stay under the 8250kg licence limit, which doesn’t give me much weight to play with?

I have an 'automatic 'Aygo and been assured by Toyota its not an automatic ,its an automated gearbox...little men inside changing the gears....or something

Just Googled it, between 1,035 and 1,090 excluding towing kit. I believe most towing A frame kit is about 30Kg. Your van kit?????
Hope above helps.

Just got a P107, (07) semi auto as a second car/toad. had it out twice now. Don`t really know its hooked up. (Merc 3L Auto on the Rapido) I already had a Caratow, so just fitted the draw unit. I use a Trailer board in the rear window for lighting. Saves mucking about fitting lighting to a can-bus system.

On the road weight is allegedly 1180kg. + Tow Kit.

We tow our Aygo Toad regularly now, I have had another camera fitted to the MoHo rear end so I can see it. It's so light weight in comparison to the MoHo and so narrow that unless I saw with the camera I really would forget that it's there. It tows beautifully, and seems to follow in the rear wheel tracks of the MoHo in all but the very sharpest of bends. It's so useful to have, we were on Angelsey at the weekend and drove down a steep, narrow, heavily used off side with parked cars and the Aygo was ideal. The Mo Ho would have caused me major problems. Regarding the camera, depending on your stereo you can have a live feed that gives a panoramic view like your car's rear view mirror, or a close up of the front end of the toad and the A frame, just to make sure it's all still attached!! :ROFLMAO: :ROFLMAO: :ROFLMAO:

Cheers!

I have a diesel Smart, free roadtax and 80mpg as a Toad but wish I hadn't bothered to get it as although it eats very little it sits in the drive doing very little and has only done a couple of trip behind the van.
probably sell it soon unless the Fiesta goes toes up. I find I do not drive far in a car now, as there is little reason to, unless to the local shop for groceries. The clampdown has made it a bind to do anything now.

I’ve just looked because the weights people are quoting seem a bit high, the kerb weight is 790 kg so add tow frame around 840 kg.

Hi, how are you getting on with the Abarth? Did you get the conversion done and had a chance to tow it yet?
