Graphite power is a dry lubricant that doesn't attract grit.
I one uses oil in a precision mechanism such as a lock, dirt and grit can stick to the oily and start to gum up the delicate springs etc and this will eventually lead to the lock sticking

You can buy small plastic bottles of graphite powder ( Google) that you can squeeze and spray into locks. If you have oiled it then spray WD-40 into the lock and leave for a few weeks before application of the graphite WD strips any oil / grease off/ out of the lock. That is why you have to spray WD every few weeks to keep the lock lubricated but if you use Graphite you can simply forget about lubing for years

Just a heads up, Lidl are selling Graphite oil and Silicone oil today for £1.99 for an aerosol can, probably about 400ml. I’d imagine it would work as well as graphite powder
