Hi everyone
my Hymer B544 1989 was all working fine until.....I went to start after 3/4weeks and when I turned the key there was a jolt as if starter motor stuck then it fired up but has developed a squeel from the belt.
This disappears after couple of minutes.
So, could this mean that the jolt caused the belt/bracket to move ? Can they be adjusted? It is a Peugeot Hymer Turbo 1989. The previous owner had belts changed approx 3 years ago 20,000 miles.
All help would be great.
Peace out.

The exhaust manifold to downpipe flexi joint can also squeak on pugs.
Put a foot on the exhaust pipe to see if that stops it.

Our old van did that, try tightening the belt first, however that didnt work for us, it turned out the belt was worn out and needed replacing.

The usual temporary fix is to dust the belt with talcum powder but if you don't know when it was last changed it might be worth replacing it if it looks a bit tired.

Spray water on the belt whilst the squeal is audible. If it stops (briefly) then the belt is the problem. Never adjust a V or poly-V belt after the initial settling-in adjustment. If it becomes slack it's worn out. After the 'jolt' I'd check the alternator bearings (spin it by hand with the belt off - if they're smooth & silent they are OK). The 'jolt' could have been a brief seizure of the alternator bearings.
