BBC news Scotland Dirty Campers

Once again motorhomers are portrayed as "dirty campers" despite carrying their own facilities and the majority doing their best to dispose of waste properly. Yes I agree there are a few who don't, more likely to be newbies who haven't been told the correct ways.

But nobody ever mentions those who "wildcamp" in cars and unconverted vans - no facilities so just "go" behind a hedge, throw their dirty water in a ditch etc. etc. leaving their rubbish at the side of the road "because the council doesn't provide litter bins". You see them in the photos of lines of "motorhomes" all the time.

Isn't it time for some national legislation that forbids overnight parking anywhere outside of sites with recognised facilities by any vehicle not adapted to be self-sufficient? I know someone will say, what about truck drivers? But have you ever stopped in a lay-by frequented by overnight parked trucks?

In New Zealand you cant wild camp or stay on reserve unless your van has a self containment certificate.
