I raised a potential issue with batteries on an 18 month old vehicle. Response was batteries are only covered for 12 months, is this the norm?

TIA

Often the case, or they will offer to test them then carry out a CCA test which is a starter battery test and they will pass so they won't change them.
If they are AGM's not unusual for them to fail at 18 months.

Straight from the horse's mouth. Dethleffs say:

Batteries are excluded from the manufacturer’s warranty because they are wear parts. We have possibilities out of goodwill of up to max 1 year.

When you start going into detail in the warranty’s there’s more things not covered for as long as you think

They could be much older if the van was on sale on the a dealership pitch for months. Possibly not even charged for months. Your c of c will tell you when the van was made.

The van was delivered to dealer direct from factory and then on to me.

Even a brand new battery can be killed within a week through misuse. They'd only have to leave it off charge with the lights on.

Check what the warranty from the battery manufacturer is ... just because the MH manufacturer doesn't cover them doesn't mean they don't have the original warranty. Some MH manufacturers only cover appliances for a year but often the manufacturer's cover is 2 years, this was the case with a Truma boiler which went wrong after the first year whilst we were in Germany.

Check the brand name on the battery and look for a build date, then look up that battery makers warranty.
Battery Megastore replaced my two year old battery (ordinary Lead Acid) without question within the three yr warranty period.
