Battery swap procedure with EBL30 (1 Viewer)

It’s time to replace my ageing Varta AGM’s with some new gels and I was wondering if there’s any specific procedure to follow when swapping them out DIY. I have a Schaudt EBL 30 in a Hymer with no solar or B2B to contend with.

I know about the obvious things like unplugging EHU, switching off the control panel, removing the 50A fuses and setting the charger to the gel profile, but is there anything else I should consider? Any other fuses to take out? Is it necessary to turn off the EBL at its switch on the front panel?

Any advice greatly appreciated, thanks.

If your charger specs include gel then its pretty straightforward just disconnect the negative first and and last when changing…

What gels are you looking at..? The exide range get good reviews and I have and a few others on here have the exide ES900..

Tanya batteries are good to deal with and deliver…👍🏼

Have you got solar, if so they would need covering or disconnecting ( best to disconnect at night when regulator is not under load)

Likely to go for the ES900 based on reviews here. Both the EBL and aux charger support gel, so no worries on that front.

Went ahead with 2 x Exide ES900 80AH as they matched the size of the AGM’s. All pretty straightforward - was a bit worried about the EBL on/off switch but it worked just fine. Set the EBL and auxiliary charger to ‘gel’ and they seem to be working to spec as regards voltage and time to reach full charge.
Happy to have done this job myself and saved the cost of getting someone else to do it.

You got away with it only just seen this thread I would have DON'T turn off the on/off switch on the EBL they often don't turn back on.

With only two battery if they are close together it's not important how you connect them.

Looks like I might have been sailing close to the wind. Presumably, then, it’s enough just to pull the 50A fuse between battery and EBL?
