Hi

Many years now since I was in Bristol. But we are booked a night at Baltic Wharf. Route planer (from North) recommends M5-M4-M32?, which involves If memory serves, navigating central Bristol?. However My Truckers Gut tells me No. Go to Avonmouth exit and the A4 Portway?.

Anyone done it recently?.

Cheers Pete.

Definitely use the Portway. Go around the Cumberland basin and you're almost there. Use the satnav for the last part will get you there.

One of the last times I was there, was by invite to a "Gentleman's Dinner" on the SS Gt Britain. But that was circa 1996. Before I took Early Retirement from the "day job", that time I went by Train and walked from the station in full "bib and tucker"!.

Agree with A and B entirely.

Get off M5 at J18 and take A4 along the Portway, and under the Clifton suspension bridge.

Piece of cake if use sat-nav from there.

PS I live locally. ;). (y)

Agree with all of the above! Watch out for speed cameras on the Portway though, and definitely keep to the speed limits!

Thanks All. My "truckers gut" was good!.(y):D and thanks for heads up on the "cash camera`s" (y)
Yes, the limit changes all along the A4 / Portway - one minute 40; then 30; and back to 40; then 50; and back to 40; and so on...

Previous Mayor of Bristol - who introduced 20mph across much of the city - got pinched in the 30 zone, just after you come off the M5.

Serves the B*gger right!.

My favourite is still the story, that after the introduction of the London Congestion charge, a number of cars where driving into central London with cloned number plates of Red Ken`s Girlfriends car!. Penny didnt drop until they had racked up a considerable bill!.. True or not it made me laugh.

BTW. Which currently would be the best way to get to the New Concorde Experience from Baltic Wharf @9am?. I suspect going back to the M5 Avonmouth, and off at Cribbs?. Might be better than Bristol central at that time of day? (with the motorhome).

Do you have to go at 9am ?
Certainly retracing your steps along A4 to avonmouth better at that time of day and it’s all dual carriageway from M5 to the museum. Museum opens at 10 am.
Central Bristol doesn’t have a good time of day !

Yes, We need to get parked up early, as we are having to use the M-H. And I need to get as close to the entrance as possible to get a Mobility Scooter or Wheelchair inside if the weather does not favour us!.

We loved the Concorde experience. Also the M Shed in The harbour is also a good museum to see. (y)
