Morning folks
We were away this weekend, with it being so hot I was opening all the roof lights to let air flow through. Unfortunately the roof vent in the bathroom could not be raised as the winder appears stuck.

My Question: is this an easy fix or do I need to dismantle the roof light and remove to fix.

Thanks in advance Andy

Don't know why but our washroom roof light winder has a little lock on it. None of the others do.

Don't be tempted to force it.. I suspect it will ruin the opening mechanism..
I got on the roof and eased it up carefully with my fingers as the insect screen prevents you doing that from inside ..
It happened a few times and I now always leave the bathroom skylight just cracked open instead of winding it tight shut..
If i ever get round to remembering ill give the seal a wipe of silicone ..
Andy

The last winder gearbox I dismantled (an Omnivent) because it was stuck (not stiff - jammed) had unlubricated sintered aluminium alloy gears. A light greasing of the gears was a total cure.

Could it be the rubber seal sticking to the polycarbonate making it feel jammed? Hot weather can almost weld a seal to the polycarb.

On my B544, I removed the fly screen and whilst slowly turning the handle I gently pushed-up on the centre of the vent cover. The lifting mechanism needed a light lubrication after removing bits of debris and leaves. The vertcal shaft on which the handle is located needed a very light spray of WD40.

Just a reminder (which I had forgot). The handle needs to be rotated in an anti-clockwise direction to open the toilet vent, which is the reverse of the main vent.

How did you get to the gears, if i remove the internal cover does that expose them

If its the usual small bathroom vent its hardly going to be a gear box as such..
And as mentioned earlier the sticking is more likely to be the rubber seal..ie like the photos.. if its not like that ignore my rambling?

There is no need to remove the vent cover on most Hymers as access to all the lifting mechanism (rods), and two gear wheels can be obtained via the roof once the vent cover is in the open position.
If, for whatever reason the cover cannot be released, then it can be removed by removing the four steel spring locking 'washers' that hold the cover on, thereby exposing the lifting mechanism.

Why do they have to make things so complicated. Handles, gears and bits of plastic.
