We are considering getting the sides for our Thule wind out awning. We are thinking that it will be easier for when we take our dogs with us. I am a bit confused...not difficult 🤣. There is one advertised on EBay but am not sure if it would fit....

We went for the Thule Residence G3. This is the rigid form of the sides and front accessories. It uses additional aluminium poles to hold it up. Takes about 40 minutes to put up and peg out, so we only now use it where we won't be driving away.

It is extremely solid when properly put up. I also add storm straps, but we never felt that it was about to take off.

The awning advertised is 3.6m long. The crucial bit of info, is how long is your wind out awning? If it isn't 3.6m, It may not fit.

Heed the seller's words:

'I have never actually used the awning except for a trial fitting in my garden'.

I may be able to guess why.
Not for nothing are awnings sometimes referred to as 'Divorce in a bag'. ;)
🤣🤣 hmmm...and we are just getting on an even keel with this motorhome lark! But we do need somewhere to put two decent size dogs from time to time..

I’ve had a look at the various awning offerings from Thule, and the clip on side and front pieces for the wind out seem to offer a versatile solution if not wanting the full ‘room’.

Would they qualify as ‘Trial Separation in a Bag’ instead?

So long as they qualify for "dry space for Cocker Spaniel and Golden Retriever" I don't mind! 🤣🤣

Think carefully before you buy as, as DDJC says, once fitted, you won’t want to be driving off-site for a jolly(;)) as they take time to put up and take down……
I bought a Safari Room for our Dometic awning, used it once or twice and then gave it away. What we use now is a Sunncamp Swift porch awning, as below.(y)

We still don’t drive off site though….!;)

So, daft question...does that fit onto the wind out awning??

Yes, it does - you’d (probably) need to use Keder strip to attach it to the wind-out awning depending on the diameter of the awning channel. I glued some C-section channel to the underside of the Dometic awning so I wouldn’t need the Keder strip.

this is what we use in Winter on our outings - a smaller version (2m as opposed to 3.9m). It gives shelter when stepping out of the ‘van door, and somewhere to dry-off the dogs when wet! Saves having to wind out the attached awning, and it stands up well to ‘breezy’ weather……tested up to 50mph gusts, so far!(y)

Hi, I bought an awning from a fellow OP. It is a Vango air thing, takes literally 15 mins to put up, 30 mins to get back on bag. It nearly doubles my covered space and is great for the kids and dog. We eat in there and enjoy the space in the evenings our bbq is in the entrance.

However it is only really worth the effort if you are saying a few days or so and it is very heavy and takes up space.

Lots of OPs say an awning is the least used piece of kit so please certain of how you might use one

Agree. Ours goes up if we are staying somewhere more than two nights.

We have 2 end panels and 2 front panels which we move about depending on the wind but make sure you get the right height and width for your canopy our dog loves being able to get out the wind rain or sun so we always put 1or the other up.

We also use a Lillypad windblocker, 2nd generation. Doubles the floor space, but is not recommended for stormy conditions. The end panels and front panel pack into a small stuff bag . See "Lillypad Leisure .co.uk

Grasmere9. Have you looked at a Quest Screen House Four pop up?

They are so easy to erect, and dismantle, and great for all sorts of storage, especially when going off site in the MH. (y)

Cheers,

Jock. :)

They also do six screen model, (and a six Pro), pending on how much room you need, but the four screen model fits on any pitch. ;)

We like ours too, and when we take the bikes with us, they are stored in there at night, locked and alarmed.

You can sit four adults in there with chairs, plus a large table, so Mum, Dad, son, and 2 x dogs would be fine.

I am fair haired and like plenty of shade on hot sunny days, but often the breeze is too much for the wind out awning. The Quest Screen Four comes into it's own, and with the curtain sides dropped down, a nice cool breeze flows through the insect netting. It's absolute bliss at times. (y)

I would rather not have a shelter which is attached to the MH, for the very reason that I may have to move the MH quickly in an emergency, be it weather related, or fire related.

Cheers,

Jock. :)

I think that we are going to get one of the 4pro's. Thanks Nicola

Hi as mentioned this is our quest pro 4 screen shelter, we are usually only away for 3/4 days ...wish few mlre, but this is easy to put up. Plenty video to watch on you tube,
Hubby and i get 2_reasonable sized chairs in, plus table, has inner fly net attached, can roll up sides, we
Paid £225 at Jackson's of arley in Coventry couple years ago, if you a member of either C&CC of MHC, also get 10% off with your card, it suits our needs , think weighs around 11.5kg so that also works well with payload, until we decide, on a attached awning  (y)

Just a thought🤔
Be careful of weight, the add on sides to your wind out can be very heavy, thick, sturdy but extremely heavy just be mindful of that.
Like others we have a air vango, easy to put up and down.😉
