We have an Avtex about 6 years old. It’s great as it has a DVD player as well. Since new I have never been able to use the programme guide. I can find the page ok, but it doesn’t show any programmes unless I have already logged into them, it will then not show the next programme due.
As we are now stuck at home for heavens knows how long I thought I ought to catch up on things and hopefully someone can tell me what I am doing wrong.

We had a similar problem with two previous and current TVs so gave up on "now and next" and bought a Freesat receiver box that gives 7 day epg.

What sort of aerial are you using?
Digital or satellite.
If its satellite, you'll only get the now next.
If digital, you'll get the whole 7 days

They have to pay for the software to give you a decent epg.

Sky and Freesat receivers have access to a dedicated data stream that allows them to access a seven day programme guide.
Other receivers do not have this ability, and will only show "now and next" programme data. But this is only available once that data has been loaded from the frequency the channel you want the data from is selected.

We get a limited programme guide when using satellite but the full guide with terrestrial tv.

One of the reasons that AVTEX tvs are overpriced rubbish (I have two - one came with the van) is that they do not pay the Freeview Guide Licence so you only get Now/Next. Useless when using the tvs supposed PVR ability. The screens are poor with dreadful viewing angles. If you dont desperately need 12v you are much better off with a decent 240v tv at about half the price.

I can accept that Avtex tvs are expensive and that the viewing guide on satellite is limited. However I find the viewing angles are excellent, the best I have found on a small tv.

Thanks for all your thoughts. As an add on to my original post- IF I take the Avtex into the house and buy a new TV and DVD for the MH would an Avtex still be the best to buy. The only problem I have with the Avtex is the sound is very loud at the rear of the tv. We have it on a swinging arm bracket on top of the seats between the kitchen and sitting area. The tv slide up in the Carthago is badly positioned if sitting in the front swivel seats, so that is now a fold out table for use when cooking.

If you're looking to buy a new TV for the motorhome to use with a satellite signal you'll still have the same issue of now and next EPG unless you get a Freesat or Sky certified receiver (or a TV with said built in). If it's for use with a Freeview terrestrial aerial there are a number of brands that should meet your criteria. Various members prefer various brands so it's really a personal preference \ budget decision.
All modern TV's with built-in speakers usually have these placed on the rear of the unit as the current preference of as slim as possible \ narrow a bezel as possible limits their position to this. Hence the reason so many TVs are now sold with a soundbar \ additional speaker unit\s.
