I'm a newbie
I have a 2003 A/S starspirit and have just encountered a problem with the door lock to the habitation area, I can't get it to close. Is it easy to take apart and fix or how easy is it to get it replaced. Can't go anywhere until it sorted. Please help!!
Maureen

It is usually a spring that fails. Some have managed to replicate one but it isn't easy.
Olearys keep the whole assembly but they are not cheap. Also there are two types that look alike so need to establish which it is.

Is it this style?

Yes it is that style. Is it easy to repair myself...
Thanks for replying
Maureen

That depends on your skill level. Springs are not available, you would have to dismantle it find the broken part and replicate it. Perhaps a locksmith would be a better bet.

Have you tried locking it from the inside? i.e. not using the key.

Have had a fiddle with it and if I move the mechanism by hand can do it so will keep doing that for now and see how it goes - thanks for your help

Yes that's what I did until I fixed mine, using cab door to go out.

In the end have had to get new lock, thanks Andy for sending inf.

New lock just arrived but can't get old one off, I have undone the two screws at the side of the lock but where it shows four holes on the front - mine has the four marks but they are covered over with the full plastic cover - help please!!!

You pry the plastic caps out with a pin

Thanks will have a go, just looked like it was all one.....

Done that, tried putting new lock on but the latch won't go down so not sure what I'm doing wrong now or if the problem was something else.!,

You been great help but don't know what to do now - thanks for all you have done.

Without the internal side fitted does the external part work, does the key turn the lock shaft

Try fitting the internal part with the lever down first.

Where are you in Cheshire?

Yes key turns and external part seems ok

Will keep trying but will get back to you if can't fix it as would be great if you could have a look.
Thanks

Have tried but no luck have given up for tonight.... Will start afresh tomorrow!

We'll have been trying again unsuccessfully and am very frustrated as just don't understand it unless new lock isn't working as well. I thought that new lock should work before putting it on door, I.e. When I move lever the latch should move but it doesn't so put it on door and still doesn't work.

sounds faulty

Hi guys, thanks so much for all your help with door problem. Apart from spring broken and not being able to get new lock working, I persevered and it was the clasp plate on the other side which was ever so slightly bent so have managed to straighten it and works perfect!

Can't tell you all how much I appreciate your help. This site is so friendly and helpful.
