I see quite a few funsters recommend the Newhaven-Dieppe route, not least because of the 20% discount for over-60s. One of the regular sailings arrives at 10.15 p.m. - rather late to be waking up everybody on an aire or campsite. Is it possible to grab a few hours sleep at the port?

An alternative sailing arrives at 04.30. Even with a cabin I would imagine one would start the day already sleep-deprived. Any advice, please?

Nice to see someone who agrees that arriving at an Aire after 10 pm is antisocial.

Just drive out of the port around the roundabout and drive back in. Park to the right hand side before the check in booths, they don't use those lanes.

I came in via Dieppe 4 weeks ago on the late Ferry and needing to fill up on diesel went to the local Auchan, where I found several French owned motorhomes parked up in their car park. Joined them and had no hassle from anyone

Wow! That was quick! Thank you all, and if anybody else has further suggestions, all will be gratefully received. Except, maybe, "take the daylight crossing!" (It's full up next Friday).

Lenny,s suggestion is the best but if you turn right at the roundabout the Aire is 2/300 metre on your left and is massive you will not disturb anyone as it’s only ever got a few on it.

It was full on Saturday night, all the bays and parked along the fences as well. There were a few disappearing and arriving during the night as well as ferries came and went.

The Aire just 'down the road' from the ferry is perfect and would happily use it each and every time we pass through. AND fresh bread or pastries van at 8:30am.. fabulous!

Look up on Park4Nite there is a nice cemetery about 10 mins drive from the port. We have spent a few nights there. Before a crossing But usually motor for a couple of hours after as we sleep in the afternoon before. The neighbours are very quiet and there is a mobile mast there for very good mobile Wi-Fi.

I wouldn't advise the 04.30 arrival we got virtually no sleep in a cabin and had to have sleep on a very quiet layby at about 10.00 AM we were so tired!

Everytime we have been past it in last few few years it's been really full last time was about 5/6 weeks ago.
We don't stop there any more since they racked the price up to €12.

We had a night crossing in Feb 2020 daytime one got cancelled because of the weather.
Had to queue up for 20 min to get the key card for the cabin. The boat was full because of the cancellations so everyone was trying to get a cabin, I blagged one for 15 quid when I changed my booking. :giggle:

By the time we got to bed after having a brew (took the kettle with us) they were waking us up two hours later.
It was rush hour in Rouen at 6 am but did manage to do 260 miles surprised myself. Had to get a move on as we only had 3 weeks on that trip.

We've never bothered with a cabin for four hours or so we just grab one of the aircraft seats take some coffee and sandwiches with us then settle down for a kip just as comfortable as the cabin. Then we drive for two or three hours to get past Rouen before stopping for another two hours or so to let the morning traffic past.
