Hi all, I have an Argos, 2007, 748-2 which is currently maxing at 20mpg. We are not fully loaded and do motorway trips most weekend. Do youthink this is excessive or just about right?

Sounds about right to me . It’s a fairly heavy tag axle van ,not much aerodynamics with the overcab .Great layout for a family 👍🏻

Last time we saw an Argos 747/8 was one evening on The M4 just past Reading heading north towards London, it was lit up like a Christmas's tree with side markers & lights, it was towing a White Vauxhall Combi Van, and was doing a steady 75MPH.
I dont think he was concerned about MPG, but bet it wasn't 20MPG at that speed.
Hope it wasn't The OP.

Mine's its most economic on motorways at 55 to 60 but mpg deteriorates rapidly at a higher speed.
Headwinds can make a noticeable difference on a long trip.
(I thought that when I changed from a yacht I wouldn't have to watch weather forecasts any more ).

The weight and shape,I would of thought max would be 23mpg with the wind behind you.

We have a 2007 748 which is nearly almost fully loaded and the trip computer never goes above 22mpg even on long toll road trips through France at a steady 65mph.
As said, it's a fairly heavy, un-aerodynamic beast so I just accept it.

We love the 748 layout as we have removed the huge table so have the whole floor area.

I only wish the seat above the leisure batteries was deeper, its a bit uncomfortable and Mrs Spawn and I always fight for the comfy bench seat.
We plan on new upholstery next year and I'll make the seat plate larger and get a bigger cushion made up.

TheAleMan had one for several years, and may be able to confirm your findings.

Cheers,

Jock. :)

I get closer to 30mpg from my 3.0 on the motorway, although I'm a plodder and stick around the 56mph with the trucks on the inside lane. I also don't have the overcab pod but I can't believe this would make 10mpg difference.

We are the same but have never seen 30mpg . Is that computer or tank to tank ?

Thats OK for a 3 litre brick and not that light either, I would be shouting it from the rooftops if we were getting 20 ;)

Yes, that’s about your average you’ll get in favourable conditions. The best we ever saw was 23 mpg return. If you drive with a feather foot and coast down the hills, you should get around 21 - 22mpg fairly regularly. Weather as you know plays a big part obviously.
