Learning to appreciate what time we have left
Hi folks.

Just had a new pioneer system fitted to our truck. It has Apple car amongst others . When I connect my phone to it..It sees everything and functions really well. However..it has a problem with calling or receiving calls? There is no sound? It plays music from my phone via the cable without issue , just wont allow calls to be heard ? I have tried the obvious and changed cables (Lightning type on this one) Connections on the back are really plug and play!
Any one else having a problem with the Car play application at all?

Regards Kev :Eeek:

I've fitted 2 Pioneer double din radios recently, both are used with ACP and both units need to have a separate microphone installed (hard wired), is yours installed ?

Yes that perfectly correct, you do need the separate microphone installed which plugs into the rear of the double din unit, if you have one then check connection in the rear as it tend to pull out when you pull out the head unit even slightly if the wire is short.
The problem we are having is that when using Google maps from I phone, the app works perfectly with clear audible instructions given, however plug it into the head unit using the USB input and although the maps appear on the Pioneer Screen, there is no audio from Google Maps played.
We have both volume scales appear at the bottom of the Pioneer Screen both of which are turned up, but no vocal Google Map instructions come through the head unit.
Disconnect the Phone from head unit and it works!...frustrating or what!???
Any suggestions as to whats occurring would be welcomed as we are thinking about returning the head unit to suppliers.
PS: What is ACP? you refer to, dont know what it is, thanks.

are you using Google Maps or Apple (iPhone) maps, i find the second works better with ACP

If its the same as in my car you need the phone plugged in of course for carplay or android auto, but the phone has to be connected by Bluetooth as well for everything to work.

We are using Google maps.
What is ACP, please, I have googled that but haven't come up with anything, and no I am not getting the Pioneer manual out again! :D
I didn't want to use Apple Maps, as are used to Google maps, do I really have to use Apple?
Thanks

Pretty sure that isn't correct.

As soon as you make a hard wired connection to launch ACP then any bluetooth connection is cut.

have you got the google maps app installed on your phone ie you not using it via Safari typically ?

It will work with both but i found it's more reliable with Apple Maps

And for any Waze fans out there, ACP now supports this. It's quite cool on your double din screen and has some really nice features vs other navigation apps.

Thats crazy surely? as if the maps appears on the Pioneer Head unit Screen, then the audio should work as well.
I am not disagreeing with you as we have pulling our hair out on this problem for months now, so any advice is welcome, but in answer yes the phone is blue toothed to the head unit, and The Garmin Sat Nag for live updates.

check next time you connect the phone, say after a few mins of driving. Typically it will say that the XXX bluetooth connection was disabled just before ACP starts up

On our kedwood unit there is a setting so you can adjust the relative volume of different inputs ie Radio, Bluetooth, DAB, Audio In

Might be worth checking if you have this setting

there's a separate volume control also for "Music" and Navigation" channels WITHIN ACP so Robert makes a good point there

Just realised what ACP stands for....Apple Car Play Doh!!
Google maps is installed OK on I Phone shows maps on Pioneer Screen, but as I motioned earlier has no sound through the head unit.

If you unplug the phone can you hear the instructions coming from the phones speakers ?

Another idea
When google maps appears on the radio screen tap the screen once and there is a mute option - make sure it’s not selected

Yes I can get both the volume sliders to appear on the Pioneer Screen, one for music, the other for the phone etc, both are turned up, but still no audible instruction from Google Maps via I Phone, yet it works as a stand alone when phone is disconnected, so frustrating, wish you guys were here to see what i mean.
Beam me up Scottie!

How about a full restart of the phone and the radio?

have you found the "navigation" volume ? as well as having a volume selectable for the various output channels there's a separate volume control for "Music" and "Navigation"

I have on occasion turned down the navigation volume (say at a pay booth) and then wondered why i wasn't getting any audio.

Yes I have both turned up, frightened now as if I do discover what the problem is, I will no doubt get the fright of my life!
Thanks

Sorry for the delay but hospital called..A bit late I know but...apple have accepted a fault with ios12.3.6.
The system does have a hardwired microphone and does work.
Siri works when it feel like it!
Bluetooth plays music really well and hooks up instantly.
Calls both in and out....Silence? Spoke directly to APPLE of Birmingham..They have acknowledged a fault with some software update 12.3. 6. It allows the phone to do everything but make and receive calls normally! They are trying to work out a "Patch" ? Not a clue?
Long and short of it is that the Iphone should hook up to car play instantly which it does. It should then make the radio and the phone all one...of which it does. What it cannot do though..is make a call with sound! That is that You dont get the phone ringing either when a call is made or received never mind speech!
Any one who has an Iphone and has recently updated to the lates IOS 12.3.6 update...you may have a few issues with stuff failing! It is on the mend and should be sorted very quickly.

Any way...Thanks for the input folks.

Regards Kev
