Buying a new burstner and there is an option pack called eco that features a start stop amplified alternator. Very little info on the net. Does it charge the leisure batteries much quicker than the pre 2019 fiat? Any info whether it charges the AGM leisure batteries at optimum profile?
Thanks

Never heard of an "amplified" alternator, where did you get this phrase from? I will be a "smart" alternator if it's post 2019 and they come with there own set of problems and challenges.

It's an eco pack upgrade on new burstners

We have start stop on two vehicles. It freaks us out and we disable them. Does this (useless to me) feature actually save fuel or mean less pollution?

If it is part of the step/start package it will be higher output. I don't like stop/start either. It introduces a delay just when you don't need one - trying to leave a busy junction smartly for example.

Sterling use the term “amplified“ in respect of their Alternator to Battery Charger (A2B). It may be something like this that Burstner are using to overcome the problems of smart alternators not charging leisure batteries properly. I would ask Burstner.

All the Euro 6D engines come with a smart alternator and most converters fit a B2B so the leisure battery can get a decent charge. Sounds like Burstner are charging you extra for it. As for stop/start that would be a nightmare on a Motorhome it's bad enough on a car.

According to the bumf on our new Malibu which has a 180bhp eco, the only difference is stop/ start with electronic fuel pump, it is a extra for the "battery booster" why they all have different names for the same thing (B2B) is beyond me.

Have you downsized to a PVC?

The Eco pack is an upgrade available on the new Fiat, however it is Fitted as standard on the automatic 160 and 180bhp Models.

yes it comes with stop/start , new electronic fuel pump, and smart alternator. I believe it also has the split charge relay too.

Not quite that extreme Lenny we have just bought a Malibu i500, been reading your modding thread for advice for when we get. (y)
That's going a bit downmarket compared to your current van.

We wanted to downsize and update abit the Dethleffs has been a excellent van we will miss it.

Very impressed with the Malibu, it was between the i500 or Carthago C-Tourer, both built in the same factory so same quality standards same fixtures and fittings but less bling than the carthago which we preferred different wall thickness 33mm compared to 38mm so insulation not as good but would we be able to notice the difference in our day to use?

On the Fiat 4.4t chassis compared to the 4.25t alko like for like we saved well in excess of £10k without all the extras the touring pack offered. The pyshical dimension internally and externally are the same as well as the double floor.

With the saving in price we are having full VB 4C full air and E+P jacks fitted.

A couple of years ago I looked at a Malibu A Class and by the time you got it up to a decent spec it was the same price as a C-Tourer, if you can live without all the extras it makes sense but if you want all the frills not so.

Some good deals at the minute, especially trade in price's but I am a bit worried incase VAT gets reduced anytime soon.

Why?

Both our cars and the motorhome have stop start. Not a problem.

It's horrible, with the car you would stop at the lights pop it into 1st to pull away, nothing, go into panic mode. Then realise the engine is not running as to get it to start you have to push the clutch right down to the floor much further than you would normally to select a gear.
At least once the car was a couple of years old it stopped working & I didn't have to keep turning it off.

Just turn it off on the dash but you have to remember to do it each time in the car as it resets each time you turn the ignition off don't know if its the same on the ducato or whether it remembers the setting.

I have stop start on my car and it's flawless. A manual Hyundai Tucson. So hoping on the new auto gearbox fiat it works as well
So going back to original question I have emailed burstner and will post when I get the reply

What clutch? Our cars and the motorhome are automatic?

All you need to do is lift the foot of the brake and accelerate away.

I wonder if stop start vehicles will have problems with starter motors and turbos further down the line ?
Doubt it, they have larger batteries designed for stop/start, and presumably so is the starter motor. As for the turbo no doubt the engine does not stop if that is too warm. Ours will start up sometimes whilst we are still stopped.

I had start/stop on an automatic car, down right dangerous. No problem with manual though.
The problem was when you are waiting at a busy junction to join an island. You sit there with your foot on the brake, in drive, waiting for a gap.
Just when the gap arrives the engine switches off!
It takes 2 seconds for the restart and re engage drive, by which time the gap has gone.
The amount of times I was nearly rear ended!!
