My Sterling B2B charger fitted to a Euro 6 Ducato hasn’t been performing well, so I went looking for a solution and found this

Can’t view the video at the moment - what’s the issue?

We have a BB1230 working fine on a euro 6 Relay.

Apparently thec D+ Or ignition trigger needs to go to a different terminal than they show in the installation instructions
It should go the the far bottom terminal
Then a link between the next two up

I can’t recall the details, but there was a flyer and/or a sticker on the box when I got mine with different instructions to the manual specifically about the D+ connection. I guess they still haven’t updated the instructions!

We bought ours from a distributor on EBay so might not have been latest stock

Should really make any difference with a Ducato as Fiat's supplied for conversion don't have a smart alternator.
Mercs do so it will be relevant for them.

Ours didn’t work well with the D+ connected to the second terminal from the bottom (as per instructions) but appears to work perfectly when connected to the bottom terminal, with an added link as per the video

Wonder why that is ?

Just checked and mine came with a loose sheet which mentions this for Euro 6. It's configuration 3.

I can scan the complete sheet tomorrow if you like Robert and I can send it to you as a pdf if you want a copy. :)

No need John (thank you)
Mine is now wired as option 3

Sterling obviously had an issue otherwise they wouldn’t have produced the video

Looking back I bought my charger in the autumn of 2017 yet Sterling made the video in 2018

We all live and learn

I wonder whether Fiat will have to turn the smart alternator on to achieve Euro VI D?

You still need to correctly configure the links on the D+ connection block to set how the B-B works.

I chose to connect a D+ signal so that the B-B charger cuts off when the engine stops, rather than drawing the starter battery down to an automatic cut off voltage, but several automatic modes are available (depending on how the D+ connector is connected / linked)

I’m trying very hard to understand the technical bits on this thread and wondered if you could help. We have a Fiat Ducato 2019, a Euro 6 engine. We are having problems with the 12 volt and wondered if the Stirling B2B 1260 could be a better solution than carrying a Generator and petrol around, which we dont want to do. Could you tell me if it would help charge a disability scooter? We have an invertor already fitted. Another question is, the video seems to show a lot of noise from the Stirling B2B, is this the case?

The B2B charger will only charge your leisure batteries when the engine is running.

What problems are you experiencing?

The leisure batteries are not holding their charge, we have 2 80 gel batteries and a 120 solar panel, but as soon as the media system is turned on the batteries drain - orange from full green within 35 minutes when the TV is on!

How old are the batteries?
Chances are they’ve had it

3 months old, we had them fitted on our new Camper. It is a Carthago Malibu, we wondered if they had fitted the gel batteries and not connected ‘something’. We had a similar system on our Globecar and it was superb.

Id ask whoever fitted them if they’re connected to a split charge relay which should charge them whilst driving

What else are you trying to supply from them ?

They are charged when driving, its the only time the control panel shows both batteries as being full. They are not full on solar, with nothing turned on, and they do not show as being fully charged when we are on 240! Crazy.

I’m stumped !

I’d go back to whoever fitted them for you

It goes back in on Friday, I just wanted to see if anyone with far more technical know how than us could give us a few pointers, better prepared than bamboozled!

I have not really got my head around how your B2B is wired.

We have an older model and have wired it direct to the batteries and works fine, not through any other system. Even Sterrlig admit they cannot make it compatible with Electroblok.

So, in extremis, just wire it direct to the batteries. Because it is difficult to get two control systems to talk to each other if they do not have the same technology.

Hi Geoff
Was that question for me?

Ginny, we have had the B2B fitted for 5 years now and very pleased with results. Not sure about the above posts as not same model as ours, but I'm sure owners of you van will advise. We can leave van running static for about 20 mins (on tick over) and batteries fully charged or if Dawn wants to use hairdryer at full heat just leave vsn on tick over and batteries can handle draw from batteries.

Ginny, how long have you been parked up (after driving how far)?, what else is using the batteries? - a short 1,2,3 hour drive will not full charge 2 x batteries. park up for 2 or 3 days in UK sun will not charge your batteries. If in EHU your system should change over to supplying 12volt across the van via charging unit whilst charging (in most cases slowly) the batteries.
If the EHU is doing this take the van back and ask why........

Ginny, won't be until April/May next year as loads to sort here in Spain right now. Sounds like even though your batteries are new they might have been discharged to far and therefore knackered...... I hope not, but a good MH place should be able to check this out.

Those are the questions I need to ask!
