Has anyone visited Albert in France?

I’m planning on visiting Arras and want to look at the ww1 tunnels museum.
Will also be taking in Thiepval and Vimy but wondered whether Albert was worth stopping and looking around?
I’ve seen an aire at Arras in the centre and there’s also an aire at Souchez - has anyone used them?
Thanks

Yes. We stayed on the campsite right in the middle of town as well. A really strange thing happened that day but that’s for another time.

Those WW1 tunnels are superb. One of the very few things I have paid for in France upon recommendation.

If I remember correctly there is also the possibility of staying outside the tunnel as there was no barrier, there was another aire by the swimming pool but unknown if still in existence since they built their new aire in the town. Cant help with Albert

Used the aire. No problem. A bit busy but no problems. Took the tunnel tour and enjoyed every minute of it. Also buy tickets for the tower. The sights are amazing.

If staying in Albert campsite is fine, easy walk into town centre with good restaurants, make sure you visit other nearby ww1 sites such as lochnagar crater at la boiselle, (largest hole made by man in anger) If you are a bit of a walker you can walk from campsite to Thiepval following tracks used by troops, you will almost certainly see spent bullets and shrapnel but any shells etc should be left well alone.

Don’t forget the Museum in Peronne.

The local fire brigade have been playing ”The Last Post” at the Menin Gate in Ypres every night since the end of the Great War, except for a brief period between 1939 & 1945. A truly moving spectacle, normally around 7pm I think, this is a “Must see” for any WW1 enthusiast. Take plenty of tissues!!

Cheers!

The site is a good base, plenty to see. Grandfather killed near Albert, we used to go to the cemetry at Pozieres, not been for a while, time to revisit.

It is a few years since we used it but we have been there twice. Always used the aire part, not the campsite, though you have access to the site facilities. Good facilities then. Baker called in a van, but as others have said a pleasant short walk into the centre. Never used it yet, but a station with good rail connections then.

A good central base for a number of key WW1 sites.

Not as Germanic as we found Peronne museum, friendly locals in a tabac not far from the station.

From memory several supermarkets to stock up, and the usual good local shops in the centre. We did not eat there so cannot suggest any restaurants.

Camping Le Velodrome, Albert - have stayed there twice.
Short walk into town where there is a WW1 (Somme) museum.
As others have said, it is a good base to visit the WW1 sites.
Close to Thiepval, The Ulster Tower, Lochnagar etc.
The campsite is basic but clean, with plenty of room between pitches.
There is a vending machine at reception which is filled with fresh bread every morning.
There is also a vet in Albert (if you have a dog and are on your way home).
