Camplify seems to be like Airbnb for motorhomes. I think it’s a great idea, both for trying out layouts and vans before you buy and hiring your own van out when you aren’t using it. Assuming the insurance and damage deposit processes they have are sound, I’m minded to give it a go. Anyone used it and got any feedback to pass on?

Don’t think I’d risk it? you don’t know who would be using it and you’ve invested a lot of your hard earned into your Motorhome.?
Why would you let someone who probably never even driven one before take your pride and joy out on the road to wreck??

I wouldn't fancy letting the van out . You can always tell whether a MH is owned or hired usually by the way it is being driven.

Seen it advertised and although I’d use Airbnb if I had a holiday home I wouldn’t do it with the van though.

I was approached when we had the R-V, The terms where tempting, and the Renting Co even went as far as saying the would re-carpet etc IF there was damage. But we decided (well actually SWMBO did) not to proceed. "We" did not fancy the idea of "sharing" with others, who may not have the same attitude to the property of others.

I think about how I feel during the first few minutes taking my new van out onto the road. Able but with some trepidation and sometimes accompanied by the warning sound from a component I had not closed/ fastened or dealt with on this first exploratory journey. Would I like to let other people who do not have a heavy financial interest in MY van go and play around to get used to it?

I can certainly see how people don't like sharing! It may depend on which van we end up with (I might only feel ok about it whilst I am talking about a hypothetical van, and not an actual one.) I'm not too worried about people trashing it, providing deposits and insurance are adequate, this should not be an issue. It may come down to me only being able to financially justify having so much capital tied up in a van if there is some yeild associated with. In the next few years I expect to use it significantly less than we do now. Up till now we have been away for all of every school holiday except Christmas, so would have been unable to hire out the van at peak times. Now, I would like to start having a few longer haul holidays, and to take advantage of the fact that I have moved house in order that my daughter can socialise with her friends independently. We will still frequently visit relatives in far flung corners, so I believe it will be worth keeping the van so we can have access to the fridge and camping, rather than be reliant on hotels, and can do journeys in legs. (My mum is in Spain, My Dad is in France, my cousin in Italy, my favourite Aunt is in Falmouth and my Mother in Law on the Isle of Man. We get around a fair bit!)

I'm not expecting to make money out of it and I consider my return on the investment in it to be our cheap overnights and catering (so I 'make' the difference between that and a hotel) but I don't think we will be away more than half the school holidays now, so I either want to reduce it's financial burden in line with reducing its use. That means an older van, a smaller van, or maybe getting some income from it to offset the costs.

What happens regarding damage, insurance may well pay for it but a motorhome is not like a car where you can get it repaired and back on the road in a week. I waited 16 weeks for parts for mine, that’s 16 weeks when you cant use it. No way would I even consider it.
