Not long enough!
CaraWarn early warning system especially for motorhomes, caravans and mobile homes
The doors of many mobile homes and caravans do not offer sufficient protection against burglars. It is therefore often necessary to improve the security of the mobile home itself. With the unique early warning system from CaraWarn, burglars are effectively deterred and the fear of intruders at night is a thing of the past.

This is how CaraWarn's unique protection works
CaraWarn uses a combination of sensors and LEDs to offer optimal protection. The alarm box is mounted inside the camper or caravan and switched on as soon as you retire to the vehicle or go to sleep. If a person stays in front of the door for longer than 2 seconds, the bright LED lights of the system start flashing and show the burglar that he has been recognized by an alarm system. Even larger animals are deterred by the light and a false alarm is thus avoided. If a person is in front of the door for more than 10 seconds, the alarm box will sound a wake-up call to alert you. Even if the burglar was not deterred by the LED flashing light, the movement in the vehicle will most likely cause him to abandon his plan, since the burglar no longer has the element of surprise on his side and is now in an unpredictable situation.

Many systems only report a successful intrusion. This alarm system can actively prevent a burglary and thus not only protect the vehicle itself from damage, but also protects you and your family as the victim from an attack while you are sleeping. An alarm system for the interior is a useful addition, but first a burglary should be prevented as best as possible, with which you optimally protect your vehicle, your valuables and above all yourself. And that is exactly what CaraWarn Secure-Sleep can do.

Unique and patented
This alarm system is the only patented early warning system for mobile homes and caravans worldwide to protect sleeping occupants. Other systems only report when the break-in has already taken place or the door has already been opened. As a rule, there is already expensive damage to the door or the door lock and in the worst case you and your family will be surprised even while you are sleeping. Secure-Sleep was specially developed to alert you in advance and thus actively protect the occupants and actively avert damage to the door.

Advantages of CaraWarn Secure-Sleep-I compared to conventional alarm systems
Conventional alarm systems report a break-in through door contacts or motion detectors, but these usually only sound the alarm when the break-in has already taken place and the damage to your vehicle has already occurred. Our "Secure-Sleep-I" alarm system recognizes and reports when a person is in front of the door and can thus prevent a break-in before any damage occurs. If a conventional alarm system goes off, the side door of your caravan may already be open and the perpetrator(s) can get into the vehicle despite the alarm. Secure-Sleep sounds the alarm after about 10 seconds and wakes you up before the perpetrators have opened the side door. This system works where conventional systems do not even notice that a burglary is about to take place!

Yes saw it was being sold on Amazon about 5 years or so ago. If I recall it was a mixed bag of reviews, some saying it was good others asking for money back. I would like to test it, the biggest problem I forsee is you have to guess where the break in will occur. If it just covers the hab door then it won't be much good.

I was looking at a very similar idea a few years back, but a system that would be transferable from van to van ie internal controller external sensor and light connected via a flat ribbon cable.

been used on cars for years" step away from the vehicle" was on one of mine. I wouldn't want to be in a van with that keep going off .

The car system protected the whole vehicle with some sort of perimeter detector that was set off if you came within 50cm of the vehicle , anywhere.Handy when parked in the road.

The reviews are as Jim says quite mixed. Currently not available on amazon.
Also it appears that a few companies do something similar milenco etc, but more than 1 device needed for more than one point of scan.

It's ok as long as dogs and cats don't keep setting it off all night, you won't be very popular with the neiboring vans, and when you are in it is not the most important time for alarms, I suppose I shouldn't say this on a public forum but we very rarely even lock the doors when we are in at night.

The one I was thinking of making would have used ultra sonic sensors mounted above the door or window and as most people know these are can be set to a specific distance ie 1 meter from the ground would have no affect.

I have seen this re-incarnated many times over the last thirty odd years and the principle sounds great but its simply not practical

Your parked on an Aire or a Motorway services and people will be walking past, as will dogs and wildlife all of whom have as much right as you to be there.

If you have a nervous disposition you won't sleep and be a nervous wreck, made worse the following morning when you get a bollocking from all the people parked around you that also were disturbed

Teenagers in particular love testing the parameters and setting the alarm lol

Of course, to be fair on a boxed in hedged pitch you'd have more confidence it wasn't an animal or someone walking past your van en route to the loo, but why would you need an alarm in that enviroment?

Personally I would opt for a PIR operated LED light above the main door

As gus has said the one i fitted to my Land Rover was called invisebeam and used two microwave sensors in the roof,
it seemed to work well until the local kid got to know how it worked, so would purposely stand near it to hear ( you are too close to the vehicle stand back or the alarm will sound). Then followed by the alarm will sound in ten seconds and it’s starts to count down, when it got to five the buggers would run off and come back later for another go,
expensive bit of kit but I disabled it and fitted a normal alarm system, ( Autowatch)

After watching the lads line up in front of a Solar panel, I can just imagine the sport to be had on a funster meet with this system.

The PIR above the main door was what I was also thinking of, powered from the leisure battery via a cigarette lighter socket just inside the door.
But I think for us the two cab doors are the possible weakspot nominations.
Think I will just install a 1000v electric fence around the van and the miscreants can take their chance! 😂😂

I made my own system using 4 12v PIR's controlled via 2 channel remote unit, 1 channel controls on/off + internal buzzer , channel 2 controls the (loud) external alarm.
Venture nearer than 1metre and the whole campsite knows !
