Spotted one of these on the M4 hard shoulder westbound this afternoon. Somewhere around the Newbury area . I wonder if the extreme heat had somehow allowed the unit to become loose.
I think it was just the dome and not the entire unit .

Edit
Unlikely to be the heat as these are widely used in Spain .

There was one on the floor at the rothenburg aire last month🤷‍♂️🤷‍♂️

I would think it would have been the whole assembly, there are around 18 plus bolts holding the dome down to the base.
The base is held on to 4 pads with 2 bolts per pad ( nutserts in the pads)
The pads are usually sikafixed onto the roof.
I once removed one from a van I had, I carefully removed the dome ,removed the bolts to the pads and then was going to get a cheese wire to cut under the pads, 1 pad came off with only a slight tug, with no effort,2 nd a little harder tug and the 3 rd and 4 th with a twist. The sikaflex had only been applied as a wavy line.it was stuck to the roof by the grace of God. How it hadn't come off whilst I was driving was just pure luck.
With this hot weather it would be worthwhile to recheck anything stuck to roofs ,including solar panels

Very interesting info . I did immediately think the hot weather may have caused it . Unbelievable that someone would skimp on materials when installing equipment like this .
I wonder how long the owner will try and tune the sat before they realise the dish has gone .
Really annoying and potentially dangerous for other road users .
