Know how popular big Hymer A Class motorhomes are on here & how hard it can be to find an almost new one so thought this might be of interest to anyone hunting for one
We have no connection with SMC & haven't used them so can't comment on them as a dealer & the price is probably high but presumably negotiable. This was posted on their Facebook page which we follow for Globecar info. so be quick if you are interested! They also had a video which isn't on the website link:

Stupid little galley - no preparation space, only one sink and draining area is behind sink.

That is what happens when they give so much space to toilet and shower areas.

sod it i have just let my c1 go or i would have bought that:D

Crappy little lounge, all beds and no living space and it's a Hymer :D2

@QFour
May l ask you why as l was down there last weekend viewing a Pilote myself.
Please PM me if you would prefer not to talk on an open forum, many thanks.

Have you got your newun yet @cliffandger ?
Not yet Ken, probably early next week. We did think about the one on this thread, but I think its too much to spend, and not sure if the later ones are built as well as the earlier ones (saying that there's only three years between them, but the one we're buying is all 'wood' and not the high gloss white material).

Im sure you've done the right thing. There seems to be a lot of low mileage 680's and 690's for sale. First and foremost I always wonder why people get rid of them so soon.

We saw that at the weekend when we collected our new van.

Sorry to say but it's an ugly thing - It looked like something that was made in the Cold War.

Unfortunately Hymer are becoming a pepper pot with leaks. I've had enough problems with my supposedly top class Carthago. Finished with high end junk and going back to normal vans.

I'm not buying something that cheap. Its a fiver to cheap for my liking.

Bleeding he’ll top of the range hymer gets slagged on here !! Christ better not mention I’m getting the new Delaware with alde I’m waiting

Have to agree with how ugly it looks we have just been down to Lowdhams and they have one in the showroom. Its been reduced from £134,000. From the outside it looks massive and with the metalic paint it shows all the little ripples and a few big ones in the panels and roof sides. Inside well the first thing we noticed was how much it rocked around when you walk through it not a good start. After that it went down hill. So we went and had a coffee. Picked up some Loo Blue and left.

I often wonder with foreign manufactured vans with RHD the work force know where they are going and dont pay much attention to detail etc as per usual.

Sad thing is that this could be the last of The Merc engined twin rear wheel drives, that so many people on here rave about.
Given the choice of Merc or 2.3 beefed up Fiats I know which I would ideally like.
As some have mentioned, and as I have learned from experience, regardless of make and model, to get better exposure/wider audience for trading it one day, it really needs to be LHD.
Now if you want to talk about the looks of an A class, yea I agree, some are pig ugly at the front especially, and they look even worse when jacked up showing the very narrow front wheelbase, almost looks like a bread van on cross ply tyres.(see external picture on advert)
If N&B, Morrelo and such like can do a better face job, then others should maybe take note. However while the order books are kept full, just like most manufacturers they dont seem to evolve much.
I wonder how long that will last in these uncertain times, having said that, Hymer have bought out other brands, and even extended their own, with the latest budget models being built in Italy.

Sad also that we keep reading that Hymers and other makes are no where near as well built are they were a few years back, doesnt make sense as the prices have always gone up, technology and materials have improved, bonding agents & methods also.

If you believe that quality always sells as I do, then why are premium brands showing basic faults, has the production line QA failed if so why? to squeez more profit is a one way track as far as I can see especially in Premium brand markets, greed will get them no where.
Now being that they are American owned that could be construed as a negative also, hope not for its loyal customer base.

What's the excuse for the likes of Autotrail and Swift then? :xwink:

Surely not and give the brand a bad name, I have never noticed or heard anything different on RHD vans, specific issues that were not also evident on LHD ones, which would be the case if it was true what you say.
Its perfectly obvious that Hymer are no where near built as good as they used to be, regardless of which side the steering wheel is on.

Agree no fundamental differences, a lot of the problems on newer vans tends to be due to the lightweight contruction. Hymer tend to be pioneers in the mass market sector then others follow.
Only reason I wouldn't buy a RHD is it's too much hassel when you want to change vans, so much easier to sell/trade a LHD van.

My view is that accountants now run business okay in some respects but not in other .sad in my opinion

That's only if you always buy abroad though, some UK dealers wont touch LHD or offer you a smaller pittance than they normally do, if that's possible.

Don't think that applies to A Class vans, but I've never bought from a UK dealer can't afford their prices.

Definitely does apply to A class, I can name plenty who don't want them, they say we don't touch LHD but will ring around and get you a price, they just ring a couple of dealers who take them and you get offered the same as if you had just rang the dealer, ie, nothing.

Yes I have to agree with you about the metallic paint showing all the ripples in the bodywork, the more I look at ours when cleaning or polishing it the more I hate the HYMER Pig (n)
The rocking you mention is possibly why apparently these vans are horrible on the road ? I have been told by some that if you drive them rather than doing your ( Driving Miss Daisy ) old fart impressions that they are scary at best and dangerous at worst ;)
