It is a really good base for any painting job. The paint we used didn't call for an undercoat but knowing how well it adheres to anything it made sense to use it.

In the end the process was number and dismantle all the cupboard doors. light sand everything, sugar soap, two coats of BIN primer, sand again, rinse everything then two coats of top coat :whew:
We bought 3 bottles of sugar soap to redecorate the hall, dining room and lounge. Spoke to Zinsser Tech Dept who told us NOT to use it, because it leaves residues that can mar the finish. 'Wash walls with soapy water, rinse and then apply methylated spirits with a sponge [we wrapped an old twel around the sponge to control the spray/dribbles] and leave to evaporate'

So, if anyone needs any sugar soap ...

Good to know 👍 we did sugar soap then rinse with clean water so hopefully should be fine and only used clean water on it before the top coats

Trouble with painting the cabinets it’s a one-way trip, I would wrap unless they’re really unsaveable!
Totally! We mused over it for a few months before deciding to go ahead. The Hymer is nearly 20 years old and in that time had two careless owners so the woodwork was riddled with chips, holes from previous fixings etc we decided that we couldn't make it look any worse!

If it were a younger MH and/or with little to no damage we would have probably gone for wrapping it all. It took us an age to find the layout we wanted in our budget so no plans to get rid of it either!

Mine was all wood so wrapped the doors. Got the thicker wrap from wrap direct. Use the 3m primer first, this helps with adhesion

Hi all, mines a Pug Boxer conversion nicely done ( not by me) but the internal cabinetry colour is a bit , well, nursing homey if you know what I mean. To modernise , has anyone ever painted out their cabinets to achieve a good standard/ look?
Is it do-able do you think?
Local to where I live in Exeter, there is a company that spray existing kitchen cabinets, and the “before and after“
Pictures look good, so it’s doable.

With doors and drawers the best approach is to spray the surfaces after well preparing by rubbing with suitable glass paper of wet and dry. BTW, there never was anything made called sandpaper which used sand it was always made with old glass bottles ground to a powder but because it looks like sand that is how it got its name!

A few years ago I painted some pine bedside tables off white with some rattle tins from B&Q and i have to say that they are as good now as when I painted them. I too have been pondering brightening up our 2015 van cupboards and whether to use Fablon or spray. AS ever preparation and planning is the key.

I’ve spray painted the cabinet doors - just done the tops ones so far - much lighter and fresh looking. I’ve also repainted all the slightly yellowed plastic fittings - all look as new. Just lightly keyed the surface with wirewool, then used used a multi surface spray paint - with primer first to play safe. (Took the doors off to spray outside... )

I’ve also started to replace the cracked plastic window surrounds - wooden frames and same paint.

Finish is very robust... 😀
