Hi all, mines a Pug Boxer conversion nicely done ( not by me) but the internal cabinetry colour is a bit , well, nursing homey if you know what I mean. To modernise , has anyone ever painted out their cabinets to achieve a good standard/ look?
Is it do-able do you think?

May devalue it if you paint it and not neatly...

But if you have to, a small roller where you can get in and a soft long haired paint brush...

Should not see any brush marks if you use an eggshell or satinwood paint..

A good quality one as well.. (y)

I would give the board manufacturer a call, as it’s a form of chip or fibre board it may just soak up loads of paint and warp.

the board is likely to be made by either Moreland or Vorhinger

Basically as above and depending on the door design you can get them wrapped.

It is doable if the prep and application is done properly. A friend of mine did the same with their MH. They used this paint...

And primed everything with this...

It was done a couple of years ago and even after them full timing for a while, it still looks really good 👍

Fablon for me as well and some self adhesive moulding strip

When we bought a PVC we had, the previous owner had stuck pictures up which damaged the walls when I took them off and left loads of screw holes that needed filling.

My solution was to cover all the walls, cupboards and overhead lockers with a very good woodgrained sticky backed vinyl.
It was pretty easy to do and looked brilliant.

I used a good quality vinyl by DC-Fix https://www.vinylwarehouse.co.uk/90cm-wide-rolls-55-c.asp

Same make as i used , got mine from The Range (there's on across the road from me).

I ended up painting all the cabinets last year, https://www.motorhomefun.co.uk/foru...-a-couple-of-little-jobs.228200/#post-4115382 Worked out well but obviously not to everyone's taste. But as long as SWMBO is happy then I am too. Not a quick job as you need to use a good shellac undercoat, at least 2 coats, and a good sealer on your top coats to give it a good hard long wearing finish. I think I ended up giving every surface 9 or 10 coats in total.

We had a small noticeable dent in our table when we purchased ( zebedee) couple years back..tried cover, then big coaster..eventually last summer hubby and i :X3: used fablon, bought from studio cards..came up great, survived couple trips with the granddaughter...so hopefully a few more.. Good luck

The valspar b&Q furniture paint of very good (the stuff they make up in store). Its sticks to anything and covers very well. However, i agree with the others that painted just doesn't look right in a motorhome

Eek, good on you , that sounds out of my skill/patience set! Sounds like fablon could be a way ahead, I’m going to try a little on an unseen panel first .... great information everyone, 🙏

ryan_flea and his mrs did a nice job

Well since posting in here about a friend who had painted the internal cabinets, we took the opportunity of lockdown to do the same since the internals were looking pretty drab. Super happy with the results but it did take nearly two weeks on and off to do!

We used zinsser [B.i.n. 123] to redecorate our hall and dining room in August after I had foolishly used a gloss finish emulsion at the previous redecoration. Provides a stable base, irrespective of the base material [includes plastic refuse bins to paint the house number so that they get stolen! Also suitable for metal railings primer!] Paint can be recoated after 45 minutes and 1 coat of undercoat followed by 2 coats of Dulux quick dry water based paint. Zinsser have a good website and a very helpful Technical Section who will explain the best preparation in fine detail.

It is a really good base for any painting job. The paint we used didn't call for an undercoat but knowing how well it adheres to anything it made sense to use it.

In the end the process was number and dismantle all the cupboard doors. light sand everything, sugar soap, two coats of BIN primer, sand again, rinse everything then two coats of top coat :whew:

There are many forums of people jazzing up old vans and a caravans using posh name paint brands. If it’s an old van nothing to lose as will certainly update it. A newer van then fablon possibly a safer bid
