I'm a Total Newbie!
I'll be staying for a week near Exmouth next week. I don't know Devon at all really, so I wondered if anyone has any suggestions for things close by or in Devon in general, or even a little further afield?

Sidmouth is worth a visit, good parking at Manor Road car park, with spaces at the back with plenty of overhang if required, 50p per hour and only a short walk into the town.

Slapton sands is worth a visit if you are interested in history and the disastrous training for the D day landings

Cycle route to Exeter/Dawlish.
Train to Topsham/Dawlish/Newton Abbot/Torbay
Darts Farm
Boat trips up the estuary
Fishing trips
Or goto the Pub

Powderham Castle is worth a visit, it’s quite a long drive around but I think you can get a little passenger ferry across to Dawlish and then walk along by the estuary. I think you like walking so a visit to Dartmoor is a must. Try Hay Tor on a clear day and you will get a splendid view of moors and tors and a few ponys into the bargain. There’s the option to go by train via Topsham to Exeter to see the Cathedral

Ferry to Starcross then walk to Powderham.

Thanks guys. I'll be having a Google of those suggestions later. 🙂

Yes I love my walking and Dartmoor is on the list but wasn't sure where. Will give Hay Tor a Google search. Thanks.

When we were kids we used to stay at Sandy Bay Holiday camp from there you can walk on the coast path to Budleigh Sauterton have lunch and then walk back. Nice short walk and Plenty of decent pubs in Budleigh.👍

If anyone walks up Hay Tor please go behind and find the quarry and granite railway tracks used to cart the hewn granite down to the Stover canal and then down to Teignmouth docks many many years ago

Templer Way - Granite route Haytor to Teignmouth

River Dart Country park is a good day out for kids with a great woodland assault course and a pirate ship in a shallow lake. Take their bathers, towel and a change of clothes. Also a large campsite.

We love the Donkey Sanctuary, parking is free. Even if you’re not bothered about donkeys, it’s worth a visit for the excellent cafe. Breakfasts and the cakes are superb.

I also recommend a visit to the Dartmoor Prison museum. It’s a bit creepy but very interesting.

Thanks again to all who have left suggestions. I'm going to need more than a week down there at this rate!

As you had your ebikes you could have, as others have said, cycled around the estuary and /or caught the ferry with your bikes to/from Starcross. Always enjoy cycling past Bottom Field CTCRM Lympstone!
