My son, partner and two kids are moving from New Zealand to live in Reading. I've tried to find a place to stopover within that area but can't really find a suitable option. A nearby town close to a linking railway station would also be suitable.

Haven't lived there for 25 years, but used to be camping at Child Beale near Pangbourne.

The Butt Inn Aldermaston allows overnight stops, subject to the usual food / drink purchases. Not sure how many nights you could get though.
Henley on Thames CMC is open....modest walk to station with trains direct to Reading.
HTH.

Had a few years in Reading about 10 years ago. Not the most Motorhome friendly to be honest. Just be thankful you’re not looking for motorhomes storage. I would suggest for longer term stays your best option is Swiss Farm or Caravan Club site at Henley upon Thames.

Parrot Face Not sure about the trains from Henley on Thames but there are busses there passing the CAMC and Swiss Farm campsites on a very regular basis, the Carousel Country 850 to and from High Wycombe, as frequent as every 20 minutes M-F, 30 min on Sat & 60 min on Sunday. I am there now at Swiss Farm and looking at the timetable 😜

50 minute journey

Have stayed at both sites, Swiss Farm is far superior but closes for short period from December.

Are you no longer in need of this info Parrot Face 😜
Yes i'm still looking for this. Son arrives early February, rest of family April. I was being a bit optimistic thinking there might be somewhere really close to Reading but best option looks like the sites you recommend in Henley or the pub just outside Reading mentioned above. The bus you mention that stops outside the site in Henley, does that take you to the train station at Henley or actually to Reading. Thanks again for your input.

I trust you realise that Reading is a very large town with lots of satellite towns and villages within 10 miles.

There’s also camping at Wellington Country Park, no idea about access to public transport or if seasonal. Good for entertaining kids perhaps?

The bus runs from High Wycombe to Reading bus station. No point using the train as it goes the long way.

Wellington Country Park site is very expensive for what it is. Swiss Farm in Henley is the better of that and the CAMC site next door in terms of price, facilities etc.

There are CL's south of the M4 and other 'sites', however if you value your possessions, not a good bet.

As said earlier the Reading conurbation is mahoosive. Lower Early was the largest housing development in Europe when planned.

Thanks for that. Didn't receive notifications of replies to this thread, so thought it was a lame duck. Some great suggestions and the touring park suggestion might be a good option for my sons recky for a house search and if allowed short stay for family. Thanks.
From the locations others have suggested it might be useful for you to have a little bit more local info. Wellington Country Park is right on the Hampshire borders and miles from anywhere with no public transport that I am aware of! California Country Park (despite the name, is in Wokingham!) has a bus stop right outside, the Leopard 3 runs between Reading and Wokingham with a regular service. Swiss Farm in Henley has a bus stop outside, the 850 Wycombe to Reading, again a regular service and both connect with rail systems en-route. I cannot say what they are like to stay on as I have not done so as I live and work locally.

Parrot Face yes as said above the bus goes direct to reading and not the train station in Henley. I’ve attached two photos of the bus stop timetable display for outside the campsite to Reading and one from Henley centre towards High Wycombe so you can see a return time if not the departure from reading, but you’ll get the idea.
