Why do people wash their cassette out?
Just stood in a poo queue at Stratford and everyone washed it out, some quite meticulously, and I think why, your only going to fill again.
Have I missed something? Can you get twice as much in next time if you wash it out? :ROFLMAO:

I just put some water back in it after emptying. Swish it about and pour.
sometimes somethings get stuck inside and need an additional flush.

then when empty put in the toilet fluid and jobs done. Or as billy connolly would say Jobby done 😝

apart from a very good hand washing after re fitting the cassette.

I always give mine a quick rinse. It stops some of the more unsavoury bits from drying on the sides.
That’s it I was having tinned stew for dinner. Decided now to have a cheese sandwich.

beginning to wish I never looked at this thread now 🤮

Never mind rinsing out cassette...Why do some wear elbow length rubber gauntlets which they then proceed to throw in a locker to fester ready for next time. What's wrong with bare hands and a good wash when completed..
Its only poo n pee after all 😱😱😱

Me, kitted up to empty the cassette…..after passing wind 💨😄😂😊🤦🏼‍♂️

Have to say I clean ours always have it’s a cleanliness thing.

Whilst we are talking toilets . What’s the recommended routine to maintain the drop trap to stop leaks onto the cassette - any top tips to maintain that perfect seal ?

Well it may just be my constitution but I find it takes a second rinse to get rid of the last of the solids.
Well it was Swmbo 1st time on the cassette emptying today (after all it was mostly hers)
Never seen such a cack (pun intended) handed attempt!!
Took her about 4 rinses to get it reasonably clean!
I stood behind her offering words of encouragement- did notice however that the bio-washing pods are doing their job(pun2) of dissolving the lumpy bits.💩

But it’s not is it? It’s because the previous user stuck the flushing hose deep into their cassette for a good rinse and then you grab hold of the same hose and a while later discover that you have now caught hep A. Think about it.

If you stood behind me making helpful suggestions you'd be wearing the lumpy bit. She must be a very patient lady :doh:

Can you explain that or give source for info please?
I read it on here (a ‘seal’ thread), about two years ago. Which is why I bought some silicone grease, which works a treat 😀. I have just tried googling it, but there are mixed results.

This is from the manufacturer’s manual for the Thetford toilet cassette maintenance section. Doesn’t really assist re-spray tins as they actually sell them (perhaps without degrading accelerant).

The rubber seals in the toilet (the lip seal, the mechanism
seal, the automatic pressure release vent seal and the cap
seal) should be regularly cleaned with water and treated with
Thetford High Grade Seal Lubricant. This will ensure that the
seals remain flexible and in good condition. If the toilet is not
to be used for any length of time, it is important to treat the
seals with Thetford High Grade Seal Lubricant after cleaning.
Note. Never use vaseline or any vegetable oil except olive
oil. These may cause leakage or malfunction.
The lip seal is
a part of the toilet that is subject to wear. Depending upon
the extent and manner of use, the seals will become less
effective and will need replacing periodically

(I know I did do some research after reading the thread a couple of years ago as I used spray WD40 Silcone Spray, and the seal of my top bedroom hatch deteriorated and had to be binned (£50 to replace). Now I only use silicone grease from a tin and the seals feel really smooth and nourished).

Avoid the spray can silicone lubricant varieties. The spray can will have petroleum based propellant and solvent to make it a spray. It will only be 5% (or so) silicone. Once the spray evaporates the silicone will remain. It is not as bad as a normal petroleum grease for rubber…

…But why not use the gel? If the o-ring is in a tough spot, put the silicone gel on the tip of a long thin screwdriver to get it where you need.

We use a SOG thus do not need to use any chemicals, except the occasional spray with a "Pink" rinse around the bowl. When emptying It usually takes two rinses to get rid of all the solids. Apparently you should not shake the cassette to violently as you may damage or dislodge the internal level float mechanism.
