Please note, Overnight Parking at Tarbet Pier has been limited to two parking bays. As you know I have promoted this area continuously for 6yrs. However over the last year the behaviour of a few ie 30 plus vans per night, have resulted in this drastic action. A total disregard for the immediate area, businesses at the Pier, locals and other MH's has led to this. Vans on the grass. Open fire so big the fire brigade have had to attend. People staying for weeks, long enough to have their post delivered to the tearoom. Staff verbally abused and threatened with physical violence. Black waste being emptied into open drains etc etc. I'm so so sad that it has come to this. On a positive note the map shows other places where Parking is available. Please please look after these spaces . — in Tarbet, Argyll and Bute.

Yep passed there recently and was shocked number of vans....
Had to happen.... unfortunately
Also black waste down drain is sheer laziness... is there not a service point there?

The technology is now around to make prosecution a lot easier https://www.google.com/amp/s/www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-england-somerset-56324906.amp

I know that's for dogs but it makes it possible to identify for certain if poo irresponsibility ditched comes from a particular person. I think the way forward could be a reporting line where people who see poo dumping leave details of the site where it's left and the vehicle reg. The sample could be collected and the vehicle reg offered a choice of a fixed penalty of free DNA testing if it shows the sample is not theirs but an extra fine to cover the testing if positive.
Those reporting the poo dumping would need to leave their details and if there is over reporting of negative tests their future reports disregarded.
I know some will say its big brother but maybe we need big brother sometimes

Very sad, do you know if these were motorhomers/casual users or members of the travelling fraternity, there is a huge difference in behaviour.

Good riddance. These people just have no respect.

That’s what I thought , but do travellers get up there ?

I’m afraid it’s the human race that spoils it for the human race. Disgusting and disgraceful way to act and only by people who must believe that they are entitled to such shoddy behaviour.

Thanks 2bob for all the hard work you have put in for the motorhome community, the real ones that leave places cleaner than we found them.

To maybe go some way to answering your question and based on what our experiences were....

We've been to the pier quite a few times and from our general observations on the area , we'd say no it isn't the "travelling fraternity ".

Also had chats with a few locals and business owners , over the space of our visits ( over a few months) and I don't blame them one bit for their negativity , given their first hand and honest experiences they related to us.

No Excuse for dumping Black waste in storm drains...lazy buggers.:swear:

And if its anything like around here it doesn't really matter what the facts are it depends on what the public perception is because that's what the parks authorities and councils are going to pay attention to. I think some don't like to think there are motorhome owners who behave badly but it's like any group in society there are bound to be some. The rest of us ought to press for regulation and penalties for those who behave badly.

Sad to hear this!

I may have this wrong......

But wasn't this one of the initial places that was included in the Permit Scheme?

and it was found that the Park authority had no jurisdiction there?

The Permit scheme may well have worked at Tarbet as, without fail, every time we have booked and stayed at Firkin Point down the road, the Park Rangers have called by to check those staying there.

I mostly agree with what you say.Particularly the press for regulation and penalties.

However I believe the facts do matter. Facts should be a clear and non equivocal summary , not then being open to subjective perceptions , be they political or public. So not being further open to manipulation by or on behalf of any particular 'agenda' by any particular group.

In the example of Tarbet pier, the controls kicking in of a maximum 2 overnight MH parking slots just had to happen. Facts showed the situation was completely out of control.

I am against the usual lazy habit of UK ' authorities' to blanket coverage any particular problem and ban ' everyone' rather than simply the perpetrators , but the Tarbet outcome does genuinely seem the best solution.

As has been discussed before, motorhome visiters can contribute to the local economy but if there is a benefit, does it not mean it is in the interest of the local chamber of commerce (or whoever) to make sure that facilities are not abused. If you park on yellow lines etc, you will incur a penalty via traffic wardens, polices or police support officers. Should this not be the same with Motorhome parking and violations of use.
