So when fitting a diesel heater under your motorhome do you take the air intake from inside the van or from the outside air. Reason for asking is because in my mind the temperature of the air entering the heater must affect the efficiency of the unit. Right or wrong?

External inlet would probably draw in exhaust fumes to the inside so can't be a good idea, unless significantly extending the exhaust, which brings in other problems of how to get rid of exhaust condensate

If you take the air from the outside then you have to have a means of expelling excess air. +as pointed out it can draw in diesel fumes also.Mine takes air from inside & recirculates it.

There is an air inlet and exhaust for the combustion process, these must be external.
then there is an air inlet for the air in the van to be warmed up by the combustion chamber, then expelled into the van, this is totally separate from the combustion process so is completely safe

Yep, get that but is it better to have that air (not exhaust) intake from in the van or for outside?

Definitely inside, otherwise you will be trying to constantly warm up the cold outside air

I have my interior air intake near the 12volt fridge compressor, hoping that it will suck air past it and help cool it.

Very efficient heating on diesel but it really draws down the battery if not on mains and it depends on wind direction as it will bring fumes back into the M/H and or lack of wind as the fumes just hang and get drawn back in.
