We are off to France in June with our 4 ton van and its time to order some Angles Morts stickers and a UK sticker. For those that have used them to comply with French law, are the big vinyl stickers permanent or can you peel them off. I dont really want them on when not in France. The magnetic ones might be ok on the doors but not on the aluminium rear skin.

We will be able to let you know in a weeks time when we get back. We intend to take ours off as soon as we can.

They are the ugliest stickers ever. I know they are supposed to be visible. I hope you all get them off ok.

I know it’s the law but the vast majority of big French vans don’t have them. Neither do we, I went through a gendarmerie checkpoint yesterday. BUT it is the law, take your choice.

They are so ugly and pointless too.

Exactly, if people dont realise that can’t be seen at certain points around blooming great motorhomes, trucks and lorries, they shouldn’t be on the road. It’s not rocket science…..big vehicle = blind spots.

Stupidity and complete disregard for the law seem to be prerequisites for riding a bike these days. ……. I’ll just get my hat n coat now……

I’ve stuck a tin plate the same colour as the m/h to the back so as to use a magnetic one on the rear also

Only seen them on big vans - 8m+ and they are generally not French.

We resolved the issue of how to take off by leaving them on. France, Spain, Portugal last year, abit of the UK and now going the other way heading for Greece ish.

I'm sure they will be trickyish to remove, but not impossible and just rewax surface when removed. It's hardly a drama😱, and they are easy to apply.

Overall, means little to me but if they help avoid even one incident they are well worth the effort especially to me and other party.

My concern is more that when applied they make you stand out as more than 3.5t😁

We're on the racecourse aire at Le Touquet tonight together with around 60 moho (only two UK). One very posh, large and expensive French Niesmann Bischoff is parked near us. Surprise surprise, no Angles Mort sticker spoiling it's shiny profile! :p oh and even better -the pay and display machine is broken and this being France nobody's going to fix it until at least Tuesday.

Is it based on the actually weight of the motorhome of the registered maximum weight ?

Ours have been on and off 3 times now, just make sure the bit you stick them on is clean and keep the backing paper.

I reckon the French are only putting them on if they ve got more than 4 wheels. I'm also frequently surprised how few Cri D'air stickers are on French mh's, generally see more on paranoid Rosbif's

When we were in France last year we were approached by a number of Dutch and German MH owners to remind us that we needed a AM sticker.

Hardly saw any French vans with them on.

If it helps to prevent an accident I have no issues with them at all

Then the logic should be that they are needed on vehicles<3,500kg which are of the same dimensions as those >3,500kg.

But the law does not require that. Maybe the law should have been based on vehicle length, or even on its mirrors, as I think that with my parabolic mirrors I have no blind spots anywhere my vehicle could cause injury - except at the rear if a cyclist chooses to run into the back of the MH

Perhaps they should be on all vehicles but just because they are not doesn’t mean that there shouldn’t be any at all. Even with parabolic mirrors you could miss someone on a layback bicycle.

We've seen some with them on but a lot more without that obviously should have had them on. We haven't as although we're registered at over 3500kg we don't look it.

I think we will do the same, mainly because I do not want to advertise that we have passed a 3.5t restriction sign, which I am sure is meant to deter 7.5tonners not 3850kg MHs.
