Quick question folks

Looking to buy an Amazon firestick for my 12v tv.

It has an hdmi and usb

Do i need to buy the usb power extender for when off grid ?

Thanks
Graham

You may need full USB power for an initial setup and download of apps for other providers such as ITV or BBC. After that the firestick should get enough power from standard USB port on the TV. Mine works fine off the Avtex and LG TVs without any extender.

Funny? Just unplugged the power to my Firestick which is plugged into an Avtex TV and it went off?

Edit - it does work with the USC cable plugged into the USB on the TV after all. Every day is a school days here!!

Thanks folks. But I may be a bit thick with this but if I buy just the firestick. I can set everything up at home then put the tv in the van.

What does it come with and is that enough to operate it on the tv or would I be better to also buy the usb powered extender.

With some things I’m just not that tech savvy

Firestick does need some power, but the USB port on a TV should be enough once its had the initial config. Assumes USB on TV does provide some power. Of course the Firestick itself still plugs to the HDMI.

Does the firestick come with a usb connector also ?

Try it without first……then if you have problems buy the power booster.

I’ve only ever had issues with one tv not supplying enough power through its USB port….even when they complain about power at set up you can usually just accept it and carry on.

Thanks

Yes

The cable it comes with is a usb cable that you can either plug into the tv‘s USB port or plug the end into the supplied mains adapter plug….you might or might not need to use the bendy HDMI adapter.

This is the slightly older remote etc, you’ll get similar accessories tho.

And yes you can set it all up at home using your home WiFi.

There will be quite a few apps you will want to download, depending on what you are using it for.

No, don't waste your money and just make sure you buy the 4k one as they work better with less delay

You don’t need to set it up at home, If you have a tv in the van you can set any apps you want on that plus try the USB port on tv first don’t think a booster will be needed

I have 4 firesticks, (2 home, 2 van), only one is 4K and you really can’t tell the difference.
Weve got about ten at the moment all running IPTV and you can tell the difference from the normal non 4k ones if you us it for live TV or IPTV

If you want the best get a cube when it’s on special offer. Like now. Very fast lots of ram and you can hard wire it for a better connection. I have one and a few sticks. The cube beats them all hands down. 👍🥃

Or look at Fire TV Edition Televisions 🤪

Truth to tell I don’t know about the Cubes or Tellies with Amazon Prime built in
I was only a first gen Firestick 4K beta software tester for them. Never took home the bigger jobbies.
I was there (Amazon) in time to test Prime’s EPL streams & add on features 😎

Thanks everyone for your advice and information.

Just had an older 19i inch tv repaired. It had been sitting around for a few years unused. But perfect for the van. Also has a DVD player built in.

The firestick lite has arrived so will try to get that programmed before going away tomorrow. It’s just for when the weather. Is very bad and we are staying in the van.

All necessary leads in and long enough as you have said. The tv has hdmi and usb sockets.

Thanks for your help (y)(y)
