At least they have obviously removed the horrible yellow “embellishments “.

Walked across the beach in May 2018 in full UK winter gear, the dog had enough in 10 mins and the sand blown in the gale-force wind would strip the shell off a turtle.
local campsite said they were surprised we had booked several nights and would we like to reconsider in the morning. We did!

A beach at Carcassonne?

I do agree, we have been several times and this time we decided that itvwill be some time before we go back.
Likewise! A bit like Mont St Michel - impressive when viewed from a distance, but a bit 'Disney' when inside. :cautious:

We went there a few years ago but we went in August it was so busy we didn't stay, we do want to go back when it's quiet.

Like some others, we found it touristy and Disneylike during the day. But as we stayed on the Aire we went back when it was lit at night and found it much more atmospheric.
But that was some years ago!

You were up early. Normally it’ crawling with tourists by mid morning and as others have said very Disney inside, apart from the chapel, although that’s where we watched a Japanese girl do about 20 different crazy poses in front of the altar while her boyfriend took pictures.

We usually go out of the season and although popular it is not heaving. Restoration was before Disney so any resembance is due to Disney copying Carcassonne rather than the reverse.

On one visit there was a choral group performing in the chapel, just visitors who thought theyd try out the acoustics which are great.
Last time we were there 2020 the dogs found a baby owl which must have fallen from a nest somewhere. They only sniffed it, and we used our friends there to get it taken to the local owl rescue.

We enjoyed it there but very busy. If heading North, call in at Cahors the old town is worth a look and the bridge is very impressive.

On our itin to have a look see..............................thinking maybe not.

It's worth a shout just once............
🍻

Great photos.
Brings back some memories of my former job.
I was sent to Carcassonne to do a recci of hotels and ground transportation as two English rugby teams were planning to play a match there and my company organised their travel arrangements. We named it Carca-rubbish as there was dog crap on every pavement outside all of the hotels.
We had to ask ourselves if it was one of us because it was too much of a coincidence that every hotel we visited, there was a pile on the pavement outside. I can assure you it wasn't me.
Anyway, from what I remember, the town was lovely and the castle was beautiful at night when lit up. We had a meal in a restaurant within the castle walls. Ryanair lost my luggage
Anyway, you look as if you're having a better time of your visit.
Enjoy!

Went many years ago on one of our winter tours. Hardly anyone there which was great. We had a warming cassoulet and copious robust red for lunch. Got talking to and felt sorry for an English couple in shorts and t-shirts who told us they were there for a short break and thought the south of France was warm in December. It was bloody cold. In those days the motorhome car park was close to the ramparts which were lit up at night to give you a million dollar view for just a few euros.

We enjoyed visiting Minerve ... much smaller but lots of history and the walk through the gorge and natural tunnel are stunning. Minervois wine is one of my favourite varieties.

Must admit it is too Disneyish for us. We were there several years ago and walked away from a bar:crying1: after waiting over 15 minutes to be served. We know etiquette says to take a table and then wait to be served so they know to charge "en terrasse" prices. They knew we were there - perhaps they had enough tourists that day. However, I really like the "basse" town. For us it is the real town rather than the tourist hot spot.

After Annecy on Sat/Sun trying to decided if we should do Carrcasonne or Colioure/Argeles? Done these two a few time, never done Carcassonne decisions' decisions.
