DOnt forget , if you were on contract AFTER august then £2.00 per day standing could start tomorrow with varying degrees depending on your contract etc

in the famous words of book of mormon "Turn it off" like a light switch...lol..if you dont need it that day

I remember going to Spain with school in the seventies, I am sure it cost about a £1 to phone home from a call box then 🤔

I don’t think £2 for data and calls for a day is bad value , we have been spoilt 👍

We buy data sims when away for Bevs iPad, that costs about £20 for 30Gb

But if you are in Europe long term - say 3 months - that's £360.....Do you really want to waste that?

Yes but if you are away a month then a local sim will save you bundles. Even when we could roam the EU free of additional charges I found British sims would often be throttled, so I always made a trip to the local supermarket for a data sim. So for me at least, nothing has really changed.

How does that work? Don’t you have to sign for a minimum period?

Not sure what's best for us, as we are away for only 28 days. We have 2 EE phones on 40GB each so if I gift 40GB from hers to mine, then turn hers off. I'll have 80 Gb available to me. Cost £56 (£2 x 28 days) and as well as the data, I get the phone call allowances as I would at home.
So Bevs iPad at £20 or 30 GB is about the same as my option.

Is there a French data sim that has fixed data for a cash payment, and does not require giving credit card details for a recurring payment, even if its one that can be cancelled at the end of the month. This is just another faff to have to cancel. I had this problem with sim cards in NZ. One month contract .. with recurring payments .. unless you cancel. That's not a one month contract in my book.

Dilemma 😕

I’m currently in Portugal. When in Spain I picked up a Lobster sim from a kiosk, the lady registered it to our campsite, the first month was free 70gb of data etc, now in Portugal and working perfectly lasts 28 days from starting. €24 euros for 4 weeks special offer of double data until the end of March.
This is a referral code to get started so you get a discount

O2 and Virgin still not charging for roaming. I'm with GiffGaff (O2) and have never had any problems when in Europe, so I'll stick with them for now. I really don't want to go back to the days of all that messing around swapping sim, especially if transiting 5 or 6 countries.

I’m in France right now and using O2. A year ago I could hardly get a signal in our French village but now it’s a strong 4G. It’s correct O2 allow roaming on contract but up to a maximum of 25Gb. The problem is their app doesn’t keep track of your usage properly and so you have no idea how much you have used. I have a contract that gives me 150Gb per month, the renewal date for next month is in 9 days time and yet it says I have only used 750Mb with 149Gb remaining.
I went into the main website rather than just rely on the app and the same figures are there too so still have no idea if I am nearing the 25Gb limit.

Not if you have roam abroad and 50gb is enough £10/month

True, and they never have been that hard to get, we used to have NOS in Portugal, T Mobile Germany, and Moviestar in Spain and everyone who goes to Morocco get Maroc Telecom ones.

For info many of the EU nationals are having the same issue with fair usage limits. The limits were always there but not enforced until Covid lockdowns made everyone have to scrabble a bit harder for profits.

90 x £2 = 180, if I might just point that out.

When I’m abroad I go in to the mobile data settings on my phone and reset the usage to zero on the first day of my monthly contract so I can always see how much I’ve used.

My wife has two EE numbers and has for a number of years... loads of GB's and not restricted ....i have just binned Vodafone and switched to EE via her account...this then allows GB's to be gifted between all 3 numbers.... she has full European roaming and i will just pay the £10 p/m add on to activate full Roaming on my new sim.. then when i come back home to UK just remove the £10 add on... and to be honest we have found EE signal is far superior to Vodafone on the Algarve where we go..

My understanding is that Roam further was the old one and Roam Abroad is the new one.
It is, but I think !!! if your contract was after august then they are stuffing us

Think you are getting a little confused over the charges...... yes if you only want to pay for Roaming on a daily basis the charge is £2 per day.... however for only £10 you can get a full months Roaming... its an integral part of their Sim Plans .. they are called "Smart benefits"... you can choose a variety of options...one of which is full Roaming... and as i said it can be added and taken off with a simple phone call... yes my individual number is limited to 50gb p/m when Roaming ....but my wife's is not and she can gift extra data if in the unlikely event i needed it.. also note this includes some countries that were previously very difficult to get ...ie USA..

But you are limited to 50GB a month roaming surely

I'm on EE pay as you go, £1 per week. You get some mins, texts and data which increases slightly every 10 weeks for no extra charge. Data being in the 100Mb to 150Mb per week.
So £4-5 per month max.
If I am away and charged £2 per day I suddenly have a bill of £60 per month. OUCH

I'm going to have to get hold of EE and find out what is going to happen to me.

His phone is but any 'gifted' is deemed to belong to the gifter and that is not limited, we have been doing gifted for a while but between John's phone and tablet. I have stuck with my tesco as I sometimes get a signal in the uk when he does not

Reading further it seems that if you have a package with smart benefit you can actually get it for free.

Might be worth looking at a contract change Tombola , hows your weather?

Hmm, yeah,
gotta say Ive been happy with this EE coverage (moviestar etc throughout france and spain)
And I have 200gb at home so has been ok up to now. not too keen on the £2.00 per month as Im planning on spending more and more time here but business is business.

Weather ?, jongood has been nice past few days, 18-20 quite sunny, I am at Murcia heading off tomoz.

We have 3 new EE sim only contracts, 200gb per month, however we have a choice of 3 add ins which we can choose, 1, is BT sports
2,is Apple music
3, is eu roaming (NO £2 a day charge)

We can switch these round month by month so when we go abroad we choose roaming, when home we choose Apple Music, simples👍
