I have seen somewhere that when jacking the van to grease an Alko axle that folk say the handbrake must be released.... can someone explain why it is necessary to release the handbrake when jacking the van up to do this please..

As you jack or lower the rear of an alko chassis the wheel will try to rotate. If handbrake is on you will scrub the tyre, only slightly but it will scrub.

That really isn't something that would bother me.
Tiny scuff mark once a year isn't really an issue...
