Hi,

A complete newbie looking for a bit of help.

I have drained all the water out of my tanks and heating system as I was worried about frost. I’m now getting ready for my first trip and trying to heat the thing up.

I have connected ehu but not refilled water as I will do that when I arrive at my destination. My understanding is that I don’t need water in system for heating to work.

My question is do I switch the pump on or off from the control panel when heating without water in system? (Feels to me like it should be off as surely it’s a ‘water pump’, but then I thought maybe the pump was still required for the other fluid that it’s in system.)

I have no clue lol

The pump needs to be on for heating.

It circulates coolant through the radiators to provide the heating so won’t work if it’s off.

It’s designed to be used without water and will be absolutely fine.

Edit - forgot to say welcome. 😄

Alde works fine on hearing without water in the tank

Leave the pump on otherwise the heating won’t work

Fantastic. Thanks so much for your response. Really appreciate it (y)

As above👍 Basically you have only drained the fresh water side, the heating has antifreeze in and is ready to go.

Have a look at the User Manual:

Hello.
You have two pumps: A circulation pump (for the heating) and a water pump (for the taps).
Don't switch the water pump on if the water tank is empty - the pump will come on and keep running.
The circulation pump is controlled by the heating control. Don't set that to 'continuous' (if that's an option - I don't know what control you have) or you will shorten the circulation pump's life - just set the temperature and let the thermostat control the pump.
Your Alde heating system has water in it too (which I doubt you have drained - or I hope you haven't). It's like a household system and uses that water to transfer heat to the hot water cylinder and radiators. It's perfectly OK to run the boiler without water in your tank. You can run off gas and/or EHU but EHU alone is only effective in Summer.

Have you drained the Alde heating fluid?

Have you got Alde system? Or Truma?

Don't you want water when away?
It’s an Alde system. I haven’t drained the Alde heating fluid, just the water by turning the yellow tap thing. I can see the heating fluid is at the correct level inside one of the cupboards.

I was advised to drain all the water if the temp drops and not using it for a while so that what I did. I plan to fill the water tanks when I arrive at site tomorrow. I’m just trying to heat it up a little bit today.

My question relates to the pump button in the bottom control pad below. Should that be on or off if I’m trying to heat the MH with all the water drained (but Alde heating fluid still present)?

The pump in the bottom panel OFF as that will be your fresh water, the pump on the heating above is showing as ON in top left of the panel and that is fine.

Just wanted to check, as wasn't sure with the “and heating system” comment in your post.

I“m literally just filling my water system now as we are away tomorrow. Enjoy.

It would seem that you don't have a manual so here are the User Manuals to which I referred in my previous post and which refers to the panel and settings, and everything else...........

I can't comment on the 'pump' switch in your photo as I'm not familiar with that control panel.
If it's the water pump, you should hear the water pump jump into action when you operate it (then switch it off).
If it's the circulation pump, you need to refer to the user instructions. It may be the 'continuous' setting I referred to above.
Assuming that the switch/button is not for the water pump, I'd start the heating system up and see what happens. If your circulation pump is in the header tank, you should hear it when running. There should be no harm in switching on without circulation because the boiler will switch off when up to its operating temperature. I'd expect the circulation pump to come on as soon as you increase the room temperature to above ambient. If it doesn't, that's when I'd switch that 'pump' switch on - but read the manual to find out what it's supposed to do if you can. You don't want to leave the pump running for hours on end...
