After 7yrs of having drop down steadies on the Hobby that pointed to the rear, today I fitted a pair of Alko telescopic wind down steadies and discovered that the bottom of the steady and footplate points facing forward.
This seems wrong in that spray thrown up by the wheels would be able to travel up the steadies towards the worm mechanism.
What other users think and have they experienced any problems.

Mine point forward
No problems, except driving off with them down
One no longer winds up automatically, so I have to swing it up partly extended so it braces itself against the outrigger, then tighten it up so it stays there, which it has done so far (y)

I fitted 4 to my van and they all face backwards. Swap them from one side to the other and they will face back as they should so that if you forget to raise them and drive forward they will automatically swing up

Hum - mine are just spring loaded and point sideways 🤔

I could have done as you suggest on my last van that had a square tubed inner leg that was gripped by a milled wheel that was tensioned onto it by a strong spring.
The one I have fitted today however has a worm drive which is operated by a winding handle on the end of a long shaft. It cannot be fitted on the opposite side. The item is fitted direct to the chassis. The reason each side cannot be swapped is that the holes for the legs are set at an angle and not horizontal.

Are they alko telescopic with a worm drive (or are they the type that are put into tension by means of a steel bar?)

They're AlKo steadies but they that just spring down and lockout by a one way clamp thing - I'll try and photo them tomorrow to paint a better picture

I wish I knew what mine were supposed to do! They seem to be stuck solid and I can’t figure out how they are supposed to move. Being a tag axle and I’m always on my own it’s not been an issue. So far.:giggle:
