I have not had a failure but am interested due to the number reported.
Having started a poorly designed poll i decided to search for "airbag ecu " read 20 pages of threads and collated the data. Most of my working life has involved "show me the data" so here it is

A total of 84 data points (failures). Spread across X250 and X290, no results before 2012. (repaired and new =100%)

Not all posts give a reason or age to failure. only 13 out of 84 state a possible reason, evenly spread between Low and high voltage and communication.
What are your conclusions?

We took Hymer fiat into the garage on Tuesday for a service and to check out the airbag as the warning light was on. It turned out to be a fault with the drivers seat belt not connecting properly. Just needed a clean.

No brand new battery fitted November

a Short time after fitting a new battery is not unusual.
LOw voltage or high voltage spike. THe only advise is to maintain the battery and wait for lights to go out when starting.

If comunication errors are suspected/known removal of airbag CPU and drying out have been successful, as have opening up and remaking earth connections.
